Haven't tried it yet. I may start looking at it to see what I think.

Anyone who is using Edge right now: is there a way to create your own logins yet? Like this was the final straw that had me uninstalling it. The post of Sampei Nihira about Super Duper mode reminded me that grudgingly, Edge is a very secure browser, just at times a highly annoying one.

Firefox has the means to create your logins and save them, which is highly convenient in certain cases. I read somewhere that a DEV build of Edge may be testing this feature but not sure if it's gotten to the release channel and I don't follow the changelogs at all.

Why do I get this feeling that all the mainstream browsers and gradually and sneakily merging to resemble one another under the hood, Google-like--retaining only their separate names to keep us users thinking there's something unique about each one?

i see. i tried it a couple times, and wanted to like it but i just couldn't. it's got too many nonessential, unnecessary features and components under the hood.

Totally remember that, imdb. The question is: has it been implemented yet in the Stable Edge version? If so, I'll go ahead and replace Opera with it. :thumb:

looks like this flag (chrome://flags/#add-passwords-in-settings) allows chrome users to manually add passwords but edge doesn't have this feature yet.

I've been using Brave for about five weeks now. Unlike Chrome and Bugvaldi it saves bookmarks on Ubuntu. It seems a bit faster than Firefox. For adblocking I've never used anything other than its own internal adblocker. I never thought I would ever surf without uBO. Notwithstanding it can utilise Chrome extensions. I like to have at least one back-up browser. Brave would have replaced Chrome and Bugvaldi as my back-up, but it's now my default on Ubuntu. Firefox being my back-up. Although this is more because of the upcoming 'snapification' of Firefox in the next LTS. I'm a bit ambivalent about snaps as some are very good. A snap browser is apparently more secure, which is a bonus. My only experience with a snap browser was Opera. It was not good. The Firefox snap is supposedly quite good now. We'll see.

So far I can live with Brave. I've been disappointed with so many browsers for varying reasons in the recent past. I must admit I'm not that enthusiastic about Chrome clones. But Brave is working well for me. Firefox and Brave work on Mac and Ubuntu. I always have Safari on Mac, but I was basically down to Firefox on Ubuntu.

I used Brave for quite awhile and enjoyed it. But my primary has been Edge for awhile now.

But do you not need the convenience of syncing your bookmarks, tabs, history across browsers on all your devices? Edge is not available on Android or iphone or mac. For me convenience, functionality and aesthetics far exceeds fear of security and privacy risks.

Oh I did not know that. Anybody use it on other platforms like android and macs? How do you like it compared to Windows?

To answer your question, no, I do not use that functionality. Again, I get your point. I allow Microsoft and Google to get away with a lot. The problem here for me was when Meta/Facebook got involved. You have no idea of my dislike for them.

I could not have said it better. Facebook/Meta, whatever. It's poisonous, in the guise of benefit for all humanity.

That is why I will seriously consider removing my precious Firefox if there's any hint of a real collaboration going on, now and in the future.

You should really check it out again, but it also depends on what you look for in a browser. Vivaldi is a lot more customizable from out of the box and bookmarks and history can be managed from within a tab, instead of from a separate window like in Firefox which seems to be stuck in the 90's LOL. When it comes to resources it's indeed heavy, but I doubt Firefox is much lighter on RAM.

Yes I saw that page, but I doubt most people care about this technical stuff related to privacy. And I will tell you why it's not good enough to me. Yes Gecko is still pretty fast but it lacks stuff that I personally need, in fact Firefox is pretty much a joke to me.

This is stuff that Firefox lacks while Vivaldi offers this out of the box, without any need for extensions:

    • Bookmarks and history manager aren't tab-based
    • Cluttered extension manager
    • No way to delete only certain cookies (via address-bar)
    • No mouse gestures
    • No tab-bar on bottom
    • No double click to close tab
    • No statusbar
    • No reopen closed tabs button
    • No activate left or right tab when closing tab
    • No keep window open when closing last tab
    • No tab stacking
    • No periodic tab reloading
    • No disable check for updates (keeps nagging)

Same over here. When I started using Vivaldi 1.0 the plan was to return to Firefox Quantum, but it was a huge disaster. I don't really care about them anymore, I guess it would be cool if they kept developing the Gecko engine, but they might as well switch to Chromium. Vivaldi is much more suited for power browsing in my opinion, but it's a matter of taste.

Yes I agree, I do use extensions like uBlock Origin but I haven't got any illusions about this being enough to protect my privacy. I guess extra measures that Firefox and Brave take against fingerprinting are kinda cool, I would like to see this in Vivaldi too, but I doubt it will maky any huge difference.

LOL, yeah I'm also not impressed by Opera's VPN, it has never worked for me. Either websites will load very slowly, or they don't load at all, it's pretty much a joke.

    I will try it again.
I actually disliked the tab based bookmarks on Vivaldi when I used it before.
I use Ctrl+B for bookmarks in Firefox and I love it a lot. Maybe I am a retro style kind of a person.
I rarely open closed tabs but I can restore using the history button. It is a two step action but I use history a lot more and an extra closed tabs button does not clutter the toolbar. For me it is clean and great setting.
This is one option I wish Firefox had. I often close the Firefox window accidentally.

1 The way I use it in Vivaldi is that I always have the bookmarks manager open as my first tab. Of course I also access bookmarks from my addressbar. But I never access bookmarks from my sidebar or menubar. And a separate window for the bookmarks manager doesn't make any sense to me.

2 I'm sure there are extensions for the things that Firefox is lacking, but a true power browser should have this stuff built-in. For example, Firefox doesn't even bother to give an option to put the tabs-bar on bottom (above the Win Taskbar), while Waterfox does give this option. Mozilla just doesn't care, probably because they are more than happy with the $500 million a year that they receive from Google. Who cares about giving users extra options related to for example tab management, right?

I'm still impressed with Brave. It's the first browser (apart from Firefox) in a long time that's really worked for me on macOS and Ubuntu.
