Macrium always puts any needed Rescue Media build requirements in the Release Notes of the current build... the Release notes may be found at the following menu item... /Help/Release Notes
They can also be found using this link, which will redirect you to latest build's release notes: http://updates.macrium.com/Reflect/v8/latest_release_notes.asp
This applies to the boot menu and external Rescue Media, since they use the same boot.wim, but located in different places.
^ Correct. Rescue Media Builder will automatically update your cached build to incorporate the new Reflect version next time you create new external media or choose to update the boot menu, even if the new Reflect version has no changes relevant to the Rescue environment compared to the version baked into the current cached build. But that doesn’t mean you need to go out of your way to update your boot menu or external Rescue Media for that sort of release. I don’t.
I always updated after a release because I thought the version number needed to be the same in the Windows and rescue environments, especially if you started a restore in the Windows environment and then it launched the rescue environment. So just to be clear, are you saying that even in that case it doesn't matter that the version numbers are different?
Correct. The Rescue environment is an entirely independent platform, so it won’t “know” what version of Reflect you’re running within Windows, which isn’t running itself at that point. Staging a restore in Windows and then rebooting to execute it to my knowledge involves Reflect placing a restore XML definition file (yes, it’s a thing) somewhere that Rescue is programmed to look for one. This capability is also leveraged in the automatic restore function documented in the Reflect User Guide to cover use cases like kiosk systems that periodically need to be reset to a known good state. I guess in theory if Macrium made some change to how the restore definition files worked, then a new Reflect version installed in Windows could create a restore definition file that wouldn’t be usable by the older Reflect version running in Rescue, but that would be an exception, not the rule.
Macrium Reflect 8.0.6635 Released (March 4, 2022) Website Latest Release Notes => https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/v8.0.6635/details8.0.6635.htm Spoiler: Changes v8.0.6635 Bug fixes and Improvements v8.0.6635 - 4th March 2022 Macrium Image Guardian Applies to Windows 7 to 8.1 and Server 2008R2 to Server 2012R2. On some systems, MIG could generate a Stack Trace event for a non-blocked remote file operation. This has been resolved. For more information on this functionality please see here Scheduled Backups On some systems, if Power Saving options were set to shut down or suspend the system after a scheduled backup, then the end time in the Scheduler History could show the time the system started up again instead of the time the backup completed. This has been resolved. Rescue Media The rescue media could default to using a US Keyboard layout regardless of the current Windows keyboard setting. This has been resolved. viBoot viBoot could display 'No bootable drive detected error' when launched from Reflect. This has been resolved. Server Plus SQL Diff and Log backups could fail to find the previous backup in the set and create a new Full. This has been resolved.
Hi i'm using the last version of macrium 7 build home (paid version) seeing i have 2 hard diskes (not ssd) with almost the same content can i perform copy disk or copy partitions from an hard disk to another hard disk using rapid delta? Can I select an entire disk or several partitions in the same task and use rapid delta with mechanical hard disk too? thanks
Rapid Delta requires that the partitions both be NTFS and that the size of the target partition (not space in use, but total size) be at least as large as the source partition size. HDD vs. SSD doesn't matter. If you've never cloned your source partition to that destination partition before, then the FIRST clone will probably NOT use Rapid Delta regardless of how similar their contents already are. But after that first clone, future clones should use RDR. And yes you can use Rapid Delta when selecting an entire disk or multiple partitions. Reflect will use RDR on any partitions where it is feasible and use regular cloning for all other cases. It's fine to mix RDR and non-RDR cloning within the same job.
Hi let's say the partition a is 60GB , i can use rapid delta with a partition of 60GB or bigger example 100GB in short the partitions size should be of the same size or bigger , right? is v8 able to do it with smaller partitions but with enough space? thanks
Are you trying to set up something like a software based RAID 1? I'm wondering if something like this might be a better option? https://www.ubackup.com/synchronization/real-time-sync-software-free-3889.html
Understood, I was just wondering if the desired outcome was a similar result without having the hardware support for doing so.
Hi, a bit of a long-shot question here. I'm using Reflect Free to make differential images (and from time to time a new full image) of my desktop PC drive. From time to time I restore it to my old laptop just to see if the image works (meaning: boots - always worked so far). So, the question: to make things faster, could I somehow restore a Reflect Free image to a virtual machine? I have a VMware player (free). Could this work? I'm ideally looking for a free solution, if that's not possible I'll probably stick to restoring to my old laptop.
Yes it's possible. One way of doing it is described here: https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW80/Converting a Physical machine to Virtual Machine Paying version also offers viBoot and uses VirtualBox also: https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW80/viBoot Virtual Box Support Personally I just mount VHD and restore image while in host OS. Then I detach VHD and run VirtualBox.
I use Reflect free. Booting ISO with VMware Player (free) and then restorin to it's VM disk sounds cool, I hope it works with the free version. KB article mentions ReDeploy that's only in the paid Reflect but I don't think it's really necessary to restore the image to VM (will have to try). The only problem now is that my disk doesn't have enough space to recover it to another virtual drive, since it's used over 50%. Thank you though!
viBoot is included with Reflect Free, and can use either VirtualBox or Hyper-V (as well as VirtualBox running on top of Hyper-V’s hypervisor engine, but that is a lot slower).
Success here might vary based on the boot-time driver configuration of the source system. If the original system is set up to load a storage controller driver rather than a typical AHCI driver, for example, you might get an “Inaccessible Boot Device” BSoD. Or you might get lucky.
encountered an issue with doing an image earlier today "Backup aborted! - Unable to read from disk - Error Code 23 - Data error (cyclic redundancy check). I have not encountered this error before - I tried several times with the same outcome - images are full images - the source and destination drives are accessible via explorer and I even tried to image to two different destinations. The image process seems to run through fine up to the final moment when the error pops up. I ran checkdsk and Crystaldisk info on the source disk without finding any errors.
