Don’t update your browser or any software inside a sandbox.

Update them normally (outside sandboxie) and then once done you can use them in a sandbox again.

Depends on what you want, realy.

You can use updated Chrome outside of sandboxie.

Or you can continue to use Chrome inside a sandbox. But like you experienced updating it will not work. You need to temporarily run Chrome outside the sandbox to update it.

What you want to do, it’s your choice.

    1. Is this the right thread to post all questions about Sandboxie classic?

    2. I have Sandboxie classic version 5.51.5 (64-bit) & Sandboxie Plus version .0.9.5. Both seem to be running, but I want to go to the classic version only. When I go to an uninstaller, it just shows version 0.9.5. If I just uninstall Sandboxie, can I keep the same ini file & both my sandboxes by just installing the new classic version, 5.55.8. 64-bit?

    3. Printing Problem: I keep getting Sanboxie messages & pop ups when I attempt to print something online. I followed the advice at

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...n-brower-when-sandboxied.385018/#post-2578673

    by edit/add OpenFilePath=c:\windows\system32\spool\printers\*

However, I still get this continuous popup that keeps poping up even after I keep clicking close.

    upload_2022-2-16_14-1-52.png

Is there a way to get rid of this?

    Thank you in advance!

Hi phrab. I think the right thread to post questions about issues you are having with the Sandboxie Plus version you are using is to do it in the thread David opened for that version.

Thank you, bo. I actually thought I was using the classic version, but after reading some of the posts, I see there's some confusion because apparently Sandboxie Plus also contains "Classic", but it's not the same as the original Classic Sandboxie. If I remove the versions that I currently have & install the original Sandboxie, will I be able to solve the printing issue by using the technique that you recommended above.

Phrab, the solution as explained in the post you linked worked in 2016. I got my W10 in mid 2017 and since I have been semi retired since 2016 (I have no need to print anything now), I never hooked up the printer to my W10 and haven't used the printer in my W7 since 2016 neither, so I don't know if the solution/workaround still works. It probably does, but I can not be sure.

I think you should try first one of David's threads, see if you get the needed help, if nothing good happens and you can not live without printing sandboxed, then go back to 5.33.6 to test it. Best regards my friend. Always a joy talking with you.

Hi, I have Windows 7 Home 64-bit and I can't seem to install Sandboxie Classic or Plus. The former keeps giving me the driver signing error and it won't install no matter what. What's crazy is that I tried turning on test signing mode, enabling nointegritychecks, etc. Even disabling the Program Compatibility Assistant service does nothing. Any solution?

As far as Plus goes, it gives an error message about "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing". I tried some Windows Update this supposed to correct this but it didn't do anything.

What build number are you trying to install?
(I ask because this thread is for version 5.33.6 only)

For Classic, the latest version...5.55.15. I didn't pay attention to the thread title...thought it was the same. I'll start a new thread then.

I think this is it with SBIE 5.33.6. A few days ago I installed KB5011831, installing this update broke completely my 5.33.6 installation. So I uninstalled the KB to make SBIE 5.33.6 work again and to give me time to think about what to do. bjm and I have been talking privately about classic, so moving to Classic is one option. I did an over the top installation today, and it went bad. It did not install and it broke 5.33.6. I might try it again tomorrow or the next day. Next time I ll try a clean install. Anyway, right now I got no Sandboxie at all.

Regarding Tom. I was in touch with him during the weekend. He says the Sandboxie Technologies project is still alive. But in my opinion, if it happens, it is still way in the future.

I waited a few days before writing this post because I wanted someone else to report the issue between the KB and 5.33.6. But no one did. I know people who are using 5.33.6 but I wanted someone else to report the issue first, and then I would confirm it. I thank bjm for trying the kb and 5.33.6 and confirming the issue. He told me about a SBIE message he saw and what he experienced is what I experienced.

So, maybe this is the right time to close this thread. :)

I think the issue with the over the top Installation you experienced was related to what I said long time ago about sbie on 2004 and later, the last sophos build screws up the NtContinueEx system call so if you run into it you can no longer unload the sbie driver. After a fresh reboot before running anything in a sandbox things are still ok and you can unload the driver as needed for the upgrade installation process.

Is OK now. I did a clean install and 5.55.20 installed successfully. That's what I should have done from the beginning but got lazy.

Same thing happened here Bo. Have been trying out windows 11 and SB 5.33.6 does not work anymore. I have moved up to SB 5.55.20 and all is well once again. I agree, time to close this thread.

Thank you for the heads up Bo! The KB5011831 update is an optional upate, so it won't be forced, right? I always take quite some time before installing updates. So, SBIE 5.33.6 can be used with Windows 10 as long as the KB5011831 is not installed. But this can't work in the long run of course, so yes, I too will move to the new Classic SBIE (thanks to David for developing it!), but I'm not in a hurry yet.

the missed problem is that win10 major half year updates last 1.5 years. eg 20h2 is going EOL this may. if you install the next half year update you will get the files from KB5011831. so its better to deal sooner than later with the inevitable, Mr. Anderson.

KB5011831 wont be forced on you but what that update updates is included in the update that will be released this next coming Tuesday. So, we cant run away from it. This is why I been dealing this week with how to go after 5.33.6. Anyway, I am done. SBIE 5.55.20 feels very good. This version is what I desire as it looks and feels like old Sandboxie and uses the original Sandboxie language. .

@ Bo: OK, but the KB5011831 update won't be forced next tuesday either, right? It will be installed when I decide to install the new updates (I've set updates in my Windows Pro to install when I initiate the download & install), right? I would like to go slow and take time with moving to the new Classic version and don't really have time to do this this week.

I am on W10 Home. So, my options to delay Patch Tuesday's updates are different than yours. The option I have allows me to delay updates for a few days or a few weeks. Personally, in W10 I gotten used to updating on Patch Tuesday and have never used the option to delay patching. So, I don't know how reliable this options are. In the Pro version of W10 you are using you probably have better options than I have. If you don't want to update Window this Tuesday, perhaps it ll be best if you use the option you always used (if you know for sure it works as its supposed to).

Thanks Bo. I will wait for a while still and then when I have time I'll dive into new Classic SBIE. It's gonna be exciting and interesting to see what's changed. I think I'll be able to run msi installations again. :)
