Hi Algo. Perhaps you don know but ( as is now) you can tell sandbox contents are getting deleted if you look at the Sandboxie icon when you close a sandboxed program. If you see a red cross when you close a sandboxed program, it means sandbox contents are being deleted (see picture below). Also, the red dots in the icon means there is a program running in the sandbox. If you only see the dots disappear and don't see the red cross when you close a sandboxed program, it means the program is not running sandboxed anymore but the sandbox content has not been deleted.

I always have the icon in sight, with the corner of my right eye, I can always tell what happens with the sandbox when I close a sandboxed program without being interrupted or distracted by Sandboxie.

Hi "bo elam", thanks for the advice but I already knew that. As for the "red dots" I have even created more distinct Sbie-Plus-icons for the tray in an empty and a specially-enhanced full version.

But contrary to your advice I'm not in a habit of constantly monitoring the tray "with the corner of my right eye" and would find doing so a bit onerous. The progress-indicator on the other hand would pop-up center-screen where the focus of attention usually lies and since it will usually close down by itself within a second or less I do not feel disturbed or distracted by its appearance at all. I see it more as an added "testimony" that things have shut down as expected and normal. So an option to handle the close-down/auto-delete-process either way might please us both, one would assume.

As you see fit, DavidX. I - personally - even could have lived with manually adding that line to the .ini. But thanks for considering my proposal that quickly and I'm quite sure that even a manual template would make things easier and clearer for a number of mainstream-Sbie-users. So thanks for that again.

Yes, that's the procedure I was also accustomed to in the past. But since a quite long time I never see the red cross any more. (But my sandbox content nevertheless is deleted [as I can see when trying to delete its manually: It tells me that there is nothing to delete]).

So I think that to this red X applies what Miss catspyjamas ( ;) ) has written above:
--> The red "X" seems to be a characteristic of the Classic version. I have the impression that I have never seen it since I have changed to the Plus version (although continuing to use the classic "pizza" icon).

Concerning the method of "Sandboxie watching":
Yes, that was/is my method too. ;)

But I am in favour of the pop up window (+ progress bar) for the reason mentioned by algol1: I find it more comfortable:

@DavidXanatos Many thanks for continuing your amazing effort

I noticed a couple of quirks with 10.0.10: (1) Portable mode fails to connect to the driver on the first start (with driver and service uninstalled) but then does connect fine with "Maintenance->Connect" manually. The problem repeats after exiting with clean-up. 1.0.9 didn't have this problem. (2) With dark mode, the list of boxes in the tray menu are all painted with the highlight background so clicking any of them does not highlight the selected. Things are fine in light mode.

Um, if you're asking about the yellow Sanboxie Control "box". That color comes from Windows.

Keeping track of the icon with your eye is something that is done automatically without effort, not even thinking about it. IMO, this feature was perfectly designed by Tzuk and makes no sense changing it. I would find a progress indicator in the middle of the screen annoying, and as distracting as a jumping ad in a webpage. But I know there are people like you who not only not find buttons and gadgets annoying but actually like them. So, .... :)

I absolutely agree with you @bo elam
The right eye glance is an aspect of sandboxie that I find comforting and convenient. I wouldn't want a progress indicator in the middle of the screen. I like Tzuk's design, structure and infrastructure within Sandboxie and I think he got it right.
I like the 'pizza' and the way it works. I don't think that it needs changing. It is functional, painless and is effortless to use.

I wasn't asking for a change of behavior of the tray-icon or any other well-proven Tzuk-designs. The optional pop-up progress-indicator (as planned) would be shown in addition to the "Mickey-Mouse-Theater" within the tray. But perhaps I should have mentioned that my tray is set to deliberately auto-hide as long as the mouse-pointer doesn't bump against the bottom of the screen.;)

Changing? AFAIK no one here has asked for that other than coping with some minor changes (like the tray-icon itself - including the option to stay with the old one) that came along with switching to the now clearly superior Sbie-Plus-variant.

That was more or less my experience too. "More or less" because I always found it a little bit cumbersome to go down with the eyes to the tray in the right moment. But I got accustomed to it. Then there came the first appearance of the pop up window with the progress bar. And my spontaneous feeling was: "Wow, what a pleasant way to see that Sandboxie is doing its work (emptying the sandbox)."

    Obviously it's a matter of taste. ;)
    __________

Which one? The one left of the words "Sandboxie Control" in the upper frame of the window? If yes: Is this indeed something that needs a change?? :D

The best of it is that you don't realize you are doing it but you are doing it.
I don't know what that Mickey mouse theater is but doesn't sound like something that would be for me.

I can't believe people are complaining about having to shift their eyes downward 6 inches for 1/2 a second. Come on. If I was a developer stuff like this would drive me nuts.

It disturbs a little bit the "workflow" when you have always to shift your eyes (in a certain situation).

Well, don't forget the sequence of the events: It was the developer himself who had implemented the pop up window (and obviously some of us appreciated this "invention"). The "problem" started with the people who complained about it. --> So poor David decided to remove it again (and is striving now to find a good solution for both sides :) ).

Can confirm this on the machines I have Sandboxie + operating in Dark Mode. You can still use the box you mouse over & right-click against, but there is no highlighting to show the selection of the actual box. The base selections of "Exit", Pause Forced Programme Rules" and "Terminate All Processes" can all still be highlighted though, it's just the actual sandboxes that can't.

:):)The term "Mickey mouse theater/cinema" is meant to describe the animated sequence of the changing tray-icon "en-miniature" as the classic way to indicate emptying of the sandbox:):)
