I would like to make a simple payment to an online shop via PayPal using my preferred method - namely bank account - as I have done alreday often in the past (the last time about a week ago).

When being transferred from the shop and after logging in to Paypal this method is visible in the PayPal window but I have no longer an option to select it! All what is offered for clicking is the option "Credit Card" (which I do not want to use).

Here how it looks like ("Bankkonto" = "Bank Account", "Bevorzugt" = "Preferred"):

    PP.jpg

What I have already tried (all without success):

    1. Calling even two times the PayPal service. Both times they assured me that with my accounts (at PayPal and with the bank account) all is o.k. They said the issue must be caused on my machine.

    2. Deactivating "uBlock Origin" (alternatively for the PayPal site alone and also in general while trying to perform the transaction)

    3. Trying to order+pay outside of Sandboxie

    4. Deleting cookies and cache

    5. Using another browser (Google Chrome instead of Firefox)

    6. Trying to order and pay at another online shop (-> the same problem - so it has nothing to with the shop).

    7. During the last week there was an automatic Windows update from Windows 10 version 20H2 to version 21H2 (the only fundamental technical change on my computer in this week). So I was already quite sure that the problem would have to do with this Windows update. Therefore I restored an image created a short time before this update so that I was back to Windows 20H2. But to my surprise the issue with PayPal was still here. :(

Possibly tomorrow I will have the opportunity to test it on another PC. But nevertheless I would be interested to learn if other users have the same problem. (As I have tried so many things I have the suspicion that the problem is caused by PayPal and not by my computer.) Or if there are any ideas what else I could try.

    Thanks in advance. :)

USA still the best. But barely.
Is your bank account the only registered payment method on your PayPal account? If so. Can you complete the transaction without selecting any method of payment? Probably not though.

Yes, bank account is the only method (no credit card or something else).

No, I can't. I could only click on "Kreditkarte" (= "Credit Card") and enter the details of my credit card in order to pay with this method.

Does it persist if you create another user profile (Firefox and Chrome)?

You tried already outside the sandbox I see.

strange. unfortunately i cannot try out, nothing to buy actually.
is your bank connection approved? PP transfered here years ago some cent to get my account verified. "preferred" means nothing, you need "Status Bestätigt" in your wallet.

Is this a one-time purchase or a subscription?

After searching with Google about the problem, I have a terrible suspicion. Likely there is no technical problem (neither on my computer nor at PayPal). They simply want to force me to give them my credit card data! But they do not even have the courage and the fairness to tell you directly about that. There is only a decent link under my bank account number and the amount I plan to pay (not even 50 Euro in this case) which says:

    + Karte hinzufügen = + Add card

    PP.jpg

Until some minutes ago I did not pay attention to this link as for years (!) now PayPal worked for me without any credit card necessities. (And I doubt that this link was already here when successfully performing payments in the past, as the last time only one week ago.)

It seems that when clicking on this link and adding my credit card data, paying by bank account would work again. (Until now I did not start this procedure.)

If this is true (and I am quite sure that it is) this shows how mean their methods are (to get your personal data and to push you to pay by credit card) and how incompetent at least a part of their support staff is (as I got two times the information that it must be a technical problem on my computer)!

Tomorrow (Monday) support will be available again and I will call them in order to report them about this.

Oh wow. If that's the case and your reports to PayPal go unresolved, could you consider to use a proxy card? Like a virtual card that you use only in these cases so your actual card is not touched? There are numerous articles about virtual cards online-with pros and cons to using them.

@plat1098: Thanks for your advice. At the moment my preferred solution would be to delete completely my PayPal account. But on the other hand I am aware that for many transactions it is necessary, e.g. when buying from shops which offer no other payment possibilities.

I am so fed up with such shabby companies like PayPal which command our lives - but I am also fed up with myself because I let them command me.

Concerning the card: After clicking on this strange link "+ Add card", of course there is already the form where they require from you to fill in your credit card number etc.etc. And I assume that something like a proxy card would not even work as there are only the icons of Visa, Amex, Mastercard and Discover.
