Well I hope your wrong. Just did these tests. testmynet down - 51 up - 5 speedofme down - 36 up - 16 speedtest.net down - 693 up - 188 I am paying for 930 up/down, this is on a 10 year old desktop, I consistently get around 700 up and 200 down on speedtest which I figure is good enough for this old rig.
Fascinating to see what speeds were back in 2009 and 2010. Back then, I may have had 5 Mb/s down, 0.5 Mb/s up ADSL, or it was 'upgraded' to 8 Mb/s down, 0.8 Mb/s up. 2011-2020, I had 30 Mb/s down, 3 Mb/s up, VDSL. Nowadays, I have 75 Mb/s down, 10 Mb/s up, cable. (https://speed.measurementlab.net/. https://testmy.net/ has similar results.) Much higher speeds are available, maximum available speed is 1 Gb/s down, 1 Gb/s up, cable or fibre.
speedof.me have no servers in canada. they have servers in 3 different locations in aus (where @Krusty is located). both speedof.me and testmy.net give me accurate results from servers in north america.
My ISP brought fiber into the neighborhood a few years ago, which increased my up/down speeds, tested several times, at least 5 fold. However, I've noticed essentially zero difference in day-day general browsing. I suppose if I was a gamer I might have noticed a speed boost. It seems odd that my upload speed is higher than download speed These speeds are on wireless, btw. I know they were faster on wired, I just can't remember what they were.
i stand corrected. speedtest.net used to be flash-based and i thought that was still the case. turns out they're html5-based now, like speedof.me and testmy.net.
This is what I got. My download speed is sometimes a few Mbps faster. However, while I would love to have faster internet, that is the fastest I can get.
Yes, I have been on NBN for some time. But when I switched to a faster plan, my speed stayed the same.
