I also updated Windows 10 and Office and haven't noticed any problems so far.

The Diagnostic Scan is Samsung Magician is not the same as running chkdsk. It apparently just checks for bad sectors, rather than checking for file system errors. On occasion, you will get volume bitmap errors on a drive, which cause the amount of shown free space to be incorrect.
    https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-volume-bitmap-is-incorrect-chkdsk-error/

If you've done a clean install of Windows, and no doubt your SSD was formatted when doing so, it will have got rid of any file system errors.

OK, thanks for the info, roger_m. Like I said, the "disappearing" disk space issue went away when I reverted to Windows 10. No problems with chkdsk. I've seen where corrections were made to the volume bitmap previously but I sure don't recall any major increase in disk space following that process.

I'm getting ready to install Windows 11 for the 2nd time. Hopefully this is something that won't recur. Thanks again for all the info. :)

Edit: When W11 is installed, I'll run chkdsk again some time, esp if I encounter the disk space issue yet again.

I've installed the January updates for 10, 11, and even a server that wasn't a DC and haven't spotted any obvious issues. Just the severely broken DC that seems to be fixed by uninstalling the updates.

I see they have re-released these updates. I'm not touching them. At least not on my Domain Controller.

Thanks alot for the notification, Krusty. I installed KB5010793 even though nothing seemed pertinent. Whatever. New winver: 19044.1469 :) Had about 3 GB to "clean" even though I wonder about that amt. sometimes.

Got them both, thanks Krusty. Had some cleanup to do there as well.

    Winver for Windows 10--19044.1503

Should have re-updated back to Windows 11 a while ago, I guess. I confess: there are two older games I have that just do not work on W11. They're pretty nifty, too, hate to lose them. So, I'll play them one more time before saying "goodbye." :'(

It was a ("nasty") very long update, with two re-starts: one for that "cumulative update" and one for KB5009469 preview.

I'd have to assume you have already looked for workarounds but I find it difficult to think something that runs on 10 won't run on 11 somehow.

Nope, it's true. I was surprised also, moreso with one than the other. But it was a simple cause and effect: going back to Windows 10 and both opened and ran perfectly. On Windows 11, one wouldn't even install.

I checked with the games publisher--both aren't tested for Windows 11 and aren't approved for it. They're both over 10 years old.

Oh these are casual, low end games. One is called Azada en Libro and actually came out in mid 2012 so it's almost 10 years old. It's no longer offered for sale on the publisher's site anyway, although another game from this same era and developer runs perfectly well for me on Windows 11.
