The software what I personally use, recommend (and purchased) are Drive Snapshot and Shadow Defender, which both pieces of software do not tamper with your computer in a dangerous way like Rollback does.

Doesn't anyone find it odd how Horizon DataSys brags about Rollback Rx is being used all around the world by major corporations and is "trusted worldwide" but you never see a reputable company promoting and selling Rollback Rx or even posting reviews on their websites praising the software.

The Shadow Defender I know about and agree it's great. Only diff with it, many programmes required you to restart the machine in order to install them. And when you do, the SD is gone. Drive Snapshot, just looked it up, appears to be an "imaging" programme, vs instant snapshots, unless I am wrong.

Yes, it's an imaging programme, even though it has the name "snapshot." Perhaps the Reflect would be even better for you or, my favourite, the Aomei.

If anyone reads his and has input, appreciated. Earlier posts warned of MBR problem if you restore from an imager. But the imager called Macrium Reflect is stated to have an option to fix that. I use an imager called Aomei (less complicated for me) and which am guessing does not have that option. With the Aomei (or any other imager), does the MBR problem take place ONLY if you take the image with the Rollback running at the same time? But if you "disable' the Rollback (using that option ii has), is the MBR problem no longer an issue?

Some history here @timmy - RBrx v9 always allowed a LIVE RBrx System to be imaged properly (MBR and DATA) and BOOTable upon restoration. When BOOT was complete, RBrx would be neutered (non-operational). It would have to be removed and reinstalled. RBrx v10 regressed a bit and when imaged would have the System's current state with a bad (RBrx modified) MBR... this System would be unBOOTable and require a refresh of a standard MBR to allow it to BOOT and would be in the state of the v9 description above. With RBrx v11, they returned to how they operated under v9 and allowed imaging of a LIVE System that included a BOOTable MBR with the same result as v9 above. This was how Windows 10 operated... Windows 7 provided a different result. At this point, I would not trust LIVE imaging of a RBrx protected System without extensive knowledge of MBR and RBrx repair following a successful BOOT.

The newer function of "deactivating" RBrx followed by a System reBOOT (required to remove the specially modified RBrx disk driver to allow TRIM to be functional in the RBrx "deactivated" state) will allow a System to be fully imaged properly. Once imaged, the System can be "activated" once again and reBOOTed accordingly. Pls remember, all snapshots are lost during this process.

Being away from this product for as long as I have is starting to affect my memory about all this stuff... soon, instead of being a "resource," I'll be a "retard" when it comes to RBrx ... I'll try and let you know when that happens (it's gettin' close).

I assume you are thinking of "making an exact copy", Aomei has that option to in settings.

Thank you, Froggie. What I didn't know, and glad you now instructed; is that you got to reboot not just after de-activating the RB but also when re-activating it. Am doing that right now, as it were. I found that the RB, after is is deisabled, still results in an Error message when you try to make a Windows update, and to get the updates working again and you must download and run the "Windows Update Trouble Shooter" (wu170509.digicab), which takes a few minutes and then says "fixed," and you can proceed. At least that's the experience with the machine here.

In the 1940s (am pretty old) my favourite Saturday radio show was Smiling Ed McConnell's Gang (in those days Gang did not have a sinister meaning as it does today, ditto Gay), and I even had a Froggie the Gremlin toy. The poor man was quite obese and died young. He really was a lovely fellow, and had a beautiful singing voice as well, made Christian religion phonograph records on the side. The show later went on to TV, with Andy Devine as the host, and which I thought was not very good.

To pb1: Will check for the "exact copy" option in the Aomei. If you do NOT use the exact copy, would that make a problem; in other words, is it necessary?

ps The posts here speak of having the fix/repair the MBR if you get into trouble. But have not found info on HOW? to fix/repair it. Thanks if you or anyone can advise.

It should, backup up, EXACTLY everything and therefore backup RBRX with all its snapshots intact, in theory. I have never got it to work for RBRX whether with Aomei or Macrium.

But Froggie can probably tell you more about that feature, or the net. It has its uses, sometimes.

Am still confused about how? to fix the MBR with the Amoei if the MBR gets broken. But so far at least do not seem have run into any difficulties so am assuming the MBR has not become broken, it if did break somehow I don't know about it and perhaps better not to know. The Rollback has for the last two or three weeks have used it been very pleasing to me, works every time. To do things like trimming the drive, updating Windows, making an Aomei image, etc., I just click the button to dis-able the Rollback. Then do the fixes and re-enable the Rollback. Painless.

All programs work well on Win 11. Does Rollback Rx 11 work on Win 11? Any Rollback Rx users tried it on Win 11 or have info about it?

As per Rollback Rx Support, compatibility with Win 11 will come before the end of the year and it most likely will be a major upgrade to v12.

Thank you for that info. Was wondering also, even tho personally am not installing W11, since machine is not compatible, but likely would not even if it were; seems "simplified" for teenagers with the cell phones, chats and little cliques. As for this forum topic, sadly has dried up, which is understandable after 13 pages. Myself have been using the Rollback for few months and have found it so far to be excellent. Possibly just lucky, since so many others have warned danger. Hope luck will hold and, if the Rollback does offer a v12, will go for it. Rgds

    Hi,
Just a thought, what about Raxco InstantRecovery?
    Or Ashampoo® Backup Pro 16?

I use Eazy Fix. I’ll install it when EF v12 supporting Win 11 releases. I’ll share my experience here.

Rollback Rx or Eazy Fix have inherent risks but it has improved and worked well on Win 10 here.

Win 11, overall, is faster and lighter compared to Win 10 on my 10 years old laptop.

Raxco Instant your guess is as good as mine, can only tell from what their website says. Ashampoo Backkup am familiar with, it's an "imaging" program similar to Reflect or Aomei. V16 is quite old, I think up to v19 by now.

£29.88 to buy a glorified computer virus, which once triggered you can wave bye bye to your data. No thanks :D

Anyone who still trusts this software after all of the warnings deserve what they get.

    Hello Timmy,
I haven't any current experience so this is just from memory and a long time ago.

When these rollback programs first came out I tried them and everything seems to go along well and like you I was happy to be able to roll back quickly to a preferred version of my system... that's great until you get some sort of system glitch and chkdsk (check disk) comes into play or some other system adjustment.
I don't think that Rollback played well with kernel level programs like virus checkers, system monitors etc In these sorts of circumstances with Rollback installed the system mangled itself. These programs take a sort of ownership of certain files which they regard as 'under their control' and hold on with a tight and aggressive grip and make system changes which other kernel level programs who have similar control sometimes do not like.
Remember years ago we were warned not to run two anti virus or similar programs with kernel access together..that was because they could 'lock horns' and bring the whole system to a standstill. Systems would grind to a halt in these circumstances and be difficult to work with to free yourself.
Rollback programs because of these sudden destructions of systems (which were impossible to repair), became very unpopular and people came to use imaging and Shadow Defender as a preference because they are far more stable and less prone to dump you suddenly when you have used them for a while.
I know that my comment is not very technical. As I said it's all from distant memory. My warning is that these types of rollback programs will dump and mangle your system suddenly and almost inevitably when you least expect it.
This is not a comment on any particular rollback program just programs of that type.
I know that this might not be much help but just my layman's thoughts on the subject.

Programs like Shadow Defender, whilst not maybe as 'convenient' as Rollback programs, are (in my opinion) more reliable and stable in the long term.

Appreciate your words of caution, Mr. Sdmod. To hopefully avoid serious difficulty, am every two weeks or so, turning the Rollback off and then creating an "image" with the Aomei prog. Luck still seems to be holding out, and on several instances the Rollback has been an excellent rescue. Do not consider it to be a "virus," or in any way evil, esp with the image to fall back on. Rgds
ps Yes the Shadow Defender also excellent, only problem with me being it disappears once you restart the machine and you got to remember always to run it; whilst the Rollback is always "there" for you.

Only a short remark as it is off topic in this thread:
It is not as you say. When entering shadow mode, you can choose if the next start of your computer will be in normal mode or in shadow mode. ;) (see http://www.shadowdefender.com/help/enter.html)
(The only thing you have to take into account: What has happened during the former shadow mode is lost in the next one [unless you have an exclusion list or you have committed something].)

It's true have not seen companies praising Rollback RX. But have not seen them praising other programs either? Frankly, performing research upon what they have praised or no praised is not high on the list of things to do for myself, or possibly for most folks?

I feel that these rollback programs are not suitable for company use if used as a sle line of defense. To me they are risky and flawed in design because they seem stable and are a 'quick fix' in certain circumstances ( which I suppose is the attraction) ;you might get away with it for a long time but one day after a glitch the system is mangled.
@timmy , If you are regularly using image software (As you say in your earlier post) then you are probably safer.
When I was using rollback software I don't remember there being an option to do that, just non boootable backups. Of course, that was a long time ago and things have changed. 'Belt and Braces' is always good. :)

A couple times a year I get the urge to try a bunch of different programs out all in one shot,( beer may or may not be involved) so seeing that I have a license for Rollback I install it and try whatever programs I fancy, it has worked flawlessly for the past couple of years. Once I'm done I uninstall it until next time.

I've also used SD, first 3 years or so I used it there were zero issues, but about 18 months ago or so I started getting bsod's, uninstalling SD fixed them. The last couple times I tried SD, within a day or two after installation, the bsod's started up again. so for now I am not using it. No idea why they are happening.
