I can't remember ever buying a movie on VHS, but I did record quite a few movies via TV. And good point about SSDs but I just can't stand HDDs. I still use a DVR with HDD and it's quite slow to show the main menu when you are recording stuff, simply because the HDD is too slow. I use one from Humax, I wish I had one with a SSD, but ISP's have now switched to cloud recording, so I can forget about that.

I have to assume that the cloud based DVRs are really just streaming so I don't get the point between having that and just using streaming services.

I backup to the cloud and I am already running out of space (800GB out of 1TB). I use Icedrive and I can watch the movie as soon as I start downloading. Of course I have a local backup on an old laptop, just in case.

I always prefer to record TV to disk, because let's say the internet connection is down, then you can always watch your recordings. So sad that we will probably never get to see DVR's with SSDs.

I forgot about the cloud, would be cool if you could save movies to services like Google Drive or Dropbox, I would be willing to spend some extra cash for this.

I think this is a bit harsh, you can't always keep adding tons of subscribers, I mean Disney+ already grew quite fast. But producing new movies like the horrible Home Sweet Home Alone won't help, what a complete disaster, why didn't anyone pull the plug out of this project, holy crap.

A few months ago there was a special price for it if it was added to your Hulu subscription. I was only paying $1.99 for Hulu (from a previous special) and got Disney Plus for another $1.99. Both cost me only $3.98 per month and with a uBlock Origin the ad supported Hulu has no ads!

Around Thanksgiving keep your eyes open for a Black Friday deal. Hulu has them ever year from $0.99 to $1.99. The Disney Plus deal was from a Black Friday deal last spring. I checked my account and I actually pay $0.99 for Hulu and $2.99 for the Disney Plus add-on for a total of $3.98 per month.

Yes, it's the Hulu with ads but if you use something like Adguard, uBlock or Hulu Ad Skipper you won't ever see any ads.

Wait a minute, can you also skip ads on smart TV's? Now that I use a VPN I can finally see some more quality movies via example YouTube and Plex, but those ads sure are annoying. Freevee isn't that bad, I like how they have implemented it, you get to see a 1 minute ad every 10 to 15 minutes, and everything goes very smoothly, so no annoying buffering, not bad at all.

A similar question--can you also skip ads using a Fire TV Stick?

OK I see, so the ad skipping probably only works on PC's and not on smart TV's. Normally I wouldn't go this far, but the way ads are implemented on YouTube and especially Plex is too annoying.
