I wish that had another option beside via a phone. I'd rather do email than phone.

Yeah, waiting to see how annoying this will be. I may just have to sign out of everything google and only use their services on my phone.

I think 2FA for Google must be possible on PC as well.

I had to use it to sign in on addons.mozilla.org
Opened my authenticator program and pasted in the code when asked. That worked.

I'm sure it works on a PC but I think my point was misunderstood. I don't want to be bothered to sit there at the PC with phone in hand any time I open something google so if I sign out of everything I shouldn't have to authenticate anything. If I need access to a google account I can just do it on the phone as it will already be in hand in that situation. This is about nothing but the inconvenience. They already track everything I do I'm quite sure.

I meant an authenticator program installed on your PC (I don´t even have a smartphone; only a dumb one). ;)
This is the only option I have.

Hmm.... I was certain at some point from the time I signed up for Gmail (2004/5) and now I had to provide a secondary recovery email account. I am certain I did provide one because I needed to use it back in 2012/13 when I got locked out because I was using Gmail outside my normal usage location (It took three weeks for Google to figure that out by-the-way.) The secondary is listed in my password manager notes.

Now I cannot find any option to add or change a recovery email. It looks like phone number is it. Google does not have it yet, I'd like to keep it that way, but it appears I will have no choice if I continue to want to use Googles services. I wonder how that going to work with my two Android cell phones I have. Guess I will find out in a few days. ;)

Edit: I just check my emails. I can confirm have have a recovery email registered with Google, to wit:
This was from Sun, 17 Oct 2021 11:05:31 GMT

Edit 2: I found it, had to go through Gmail setting to get to it.

If you don’t want to enter a 2-Step Verification code or use your Security Key every time you sign in to your Google Account, you can mark your computer or mobile device as trusted. With trusted computers and devices, you don’t need to enter a verification code each time you sign in. When you enter a verification code, select Don't ask again on this computer.

    Interesting, you got that here.

Sounds good, except your device is identified in part by your IP address. Google currently shows five devices listed "You’ve signed out of your Google Account on these devices in the last 28 days", one of them is my cell phone the other four are this device. For currently signed in devices Google says four of them, two are this device. Anytime my ISP gives me new new IP address the only thing that is the same is Philippines.

Sounds interesting, thanks. But I was already planning to buy a security key anyway.

Apps like Authy and WinAuth might indeed also be a good solution. They should really stop with 2FA via smartphones, it's so annoying.
