There is an already a Windows Defender app in the Microsoft Store to protect browsers.

Its turned off by default and the registry has to be modified to allow it to run.

Is the new Windows Defender app in the works an AV or will it be an AM? I guess we'll soon find out.

It was about time and I hope it will also be available on Win 10, it could really need a GUI makeover. I wonder if this was inspired by the new DefenderUI tool.

It could but it looks like from the screenshots I have seen it is getting even more simplified. I want it to go the other way. It really wouldn't kill them to do a simplified UI for those that want it and an advanced one for those that prefer more control.

MS has simplified the UI in WIN11 to a point, where you need even more clicks, for simple tasks and settings.
    I don't like it.

I don't either... it's pretty annoying and poor design...

    Bleeping expounds:

    Because maybe MS sez:

I disagree. We should be able to change, tweak and adjust our Operating System how ever we choose. It looks like M$ hare intent on making that harder.

Simpler is better, if they are going to try to make a gui to adjust a million settings its going to be a total mess. And they have to make it for the average person, not for the people here who want to tweak their systems to the point of breaking something.

MS started with WIN8, to do this...
The last MS-OS, without such, was WIN7.
As a result, some of my friends migrated to Linux.
Me myself will stay with WIN10 as long, as I'm able to suppress unwanted annoyances.

Just one more good reason to stay sitting on my hands with Windows 10 until they do most of what they intend to do with Windows 11 changes and wait those out along with other bug fixes first too.

Screenshot does mention family, so I think it'll come to consumers as well.

I get the message my account isn't authorized to use Microsoft Defender yet.
