You can download Ubuntu Linux 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) daily builds right now October 23, 2021 https://betanews.com/2021/10/23/ubuntu-linux-2204-jammy-jellyfish-db/
If you waited this long, you can wait until fall 2022, which is when this LTS version should be officially offered to people currently running LTS.
I am pretty sure that Canonical gives every new LTS version a six-month waiting period, to get the wrinkles ironed out, before an upgrade notification shows up for folks running the previous LTS version.
I ran 16.04 for a long time until finally upgrading to 20.04. I'll wait until the upgrade is offered by Canonical. I'm in no hurry, and I don't mind waiting until the autumn. I'd rather a relatively bug-free later release than being a test pilot.
According to the Ubuntu Wiki you're correct. I'll upgrade when Canonical offer it. Spring or autumn. The LTS releases are usually pretty stable. I thought they were usually around April anyway IIRC.
As an LTS it should be a solid version but I think they should follow Android here and drop the silly names if they want to be taken seriously.
I think that Canonical just like the alliteration lol. It's worth pointing out that in British English slang 'jammy' can mean lucky.
Probably the intended use here then. That said I was testing some Python scripts on a Focal Fossa VM and the boss walked by and sarcastically said "nice picture" referring to the default wallpaper. It's all fun and games until the boss sees it.
Canonical is famous for alliterative animal names. The current LTS is named Focal Fossa after a Madagascaran carnivore.
