Tried installing but I couldn't get the free product key as repeated 'SSL error - possible date/time or security software issue' failure. I tried disabling all security software & sync'd my time/date to no avail... Uninstalled. Plenty of others have experienced this on support forum (2018 version) but no real solution/help offered.

Update: It was Windows Firewall that was the hurdle. Disabling firewall before requesting Product Key then re-enabling after key entered worked. Given how many use Windows Firewall this seems a bit odd from SoftMaker.

I only have Text Maker installed. I'll try again next week. Not had it on the machine long, but pleased with it so far

I have the previous version installed on a couple of machines. I'd be interested to hear what is different about this new release.

No free office suite offers a database module like Access. Microsoft has never ported it to MacOS. For now, the only cross platform database is Airtable.

I've tried Softmaker but there's one thing that puts me off: when saving you're presented with the entire directory to choose from, not just the Documents folder. I know you can set Favourite folders, but it's too weird for me. Why do they do it?

If you save a document in the Documents folder, it will remember that and use it as the default folder location.

Do they have a BlackFriday / CyberMonday deal?
(I mean, of course, for the paid programs)

You could buy the Ashampoo version, which is regularly on sale.

    Thanks Firecat.
I didn't know that there was a Ashampoo version; but I think I will pass on that. Thanks anyway!

What is in the paid version of Softmaker Office that you need? I find that Softmaker FreeOffice is fine for basic MS Office document compatibility.

I think, not sure, that Ashampoo Office version is Softmaker 2018, not the latest one. I know Ashampoo free office is many versions behind.

The latest version is a rebranded 2021 version of Softmaker Office.

It's a rebranded version, often sold cheaper.

AO v8 is SO 2018? Not that bad for regular office working, there was a giveaway end of 2020 i found with google. if not, then its 2016 - not really pretty. thats why i participate in giveaways of that kind to get some cheaper upgrades. starting with 2008, then 2010, 2012, 2016, 2018. if you can find a giveaway number you can try out if its possible to upgrade cheaper.

USA still the best. But barely.
I'm quite happy with my paid Ashampoo Office 8. $20/ 5 user/ lifetime license.
