Yes, I was able to see the images from the three links I posted (but not in the article) without being logged into NYTimes. Curious isn't it?

Bottom line: I goofed big time and my face is red. The reason I had trouble with the article was because I've shut off javascript at some point, don't recall when or why. Once js enabled all is well. But I still need to be logged in.
It's interesting that you were able to read the article without subscription. I send the link to a relative in Germany and she could not get into the article. All she saw was a nag to subscribe.

 

Javascript was an issue - please see my answer to Stapp, above.
In SeaMonkey it's hopeless. Those pictures are classified as objects in NoScript, and even if I allow I can see nothing, but that's off topic in this Vivaldi forum.

OK I see, you're totally done with Vivaldi or Bugvaldi as you like to call it. I hope they will soon fix the problems on the macOS and that you can then hopefully make a comeback in this topic.

Never heard of the Google Idle API, is this how websites determine if they should log you out? And the new download panel looks kinda cool. And is anyone using the Vivaldi Sync feature, is it safe? And not sure what to think of PWA, never saw it in action. BTW, I didn't upgrade yet.

Yesterday, I tried Maxthon v.6
It's BAAAAAAAAAAD.
It's TERRIBLE!
It's NOTHING in comparison to Opera!
I hope I was able to uninstall all that cr..p from my computer!
I'm patiently testing Osiris browser.

 

What was so bad about it? You would think that now they have switched to Chromium/Blink it would have been improved. Perhaps you can post about it in the Maxthon thread.

thanks for the info and the links. it looks like it has no portable version. and unfortunately that's a no-go for me. i only use portable browsers on my rigs (apart from edge, obviously).

 

From the get-go, it was uncontrollable and full of ads. Just day and night in comparison to Osiris or Opera.

 

Wow, sounds really bad. Do you mean that the built-in adblocker didn't work correctly, or did Maxthon itself presented you popup ads? But anyway, I don't trust Maxthon anyway, it's clearly not focused on privacy, Vivaldi is a much better choice, both in terms of features and privacy.

Yes, Maxthon is full of popup ads. Maxthon is difficult to secure and make it private.
Currently, I'm trying Osiris. It has an internal adblock app and does not give me any Critical Issues at BrowserAudit.
