I'd say that is a fine example of modern journalism.
Just look in the comments to see people questioning the "going to untrusted sites" narrative, when it is much easier to go to github and get youtube-dl.
If using an android it is even easier to use the open source Newpipe YT client.
Mozilla and Googles own extension stores have a few good options for your browser also.

Typical modern click-bait journalism. They totally ignore mentioning any of the well known safe and trusted tools, in favour of only mentioning the scary bad places as the options.
An option to educate was missed.

 

I know what you mean, but to be fair there are probably only a few trusted tools, both apps and extensions, that offer YT downloads, while there are many malicious ones.
