How is it possible that Chromium recovers here a profile without sync?

Normally I have separate profiles for each Windows, from time to time I update some settings and extensions settings from or to Firefox. On this computer only Windows 10, I also was surprised last days on my pro, now on the other Windows 10 with the same profile.

Chromium behaves like chrome and drop all passwords and extension (but retain all other settings incl extension settings). Between Windows 8 and Windows 10 no luck, but here?

    Anyone knows why this happens?

    Hi Brummelchen.

I found this blog from a couple of months ago (also the first hotlink in second paragraph of that blog). Does it explain the mystery?

sorry no. Chromium is not logged in (no sync) and there is no login data store, nothing. Thats is what it is telling me. and also on this system there exist no login. the profile is just a copy from here to there, and my experience told me that chromium will remove any login and extension if the machine is different, for security reason, long story about the "super id". and the mystery is only on that machine which only has windows 10 installed (multi boot).

Is it possible that chromium uses
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Chromium
    to store its state?

(does not help when profile is "damaged", deleted extensions)
Strange, using a "wrong" profile without registry is again recovering extensions. Must be something inside the profile and i have not found it yet, it may be a combination of several folders - i deleted 5 or 6 folders and chromium did not recovered any.

Been a few years since this one. Downloading now to check it out. Chrome Stable 92 is blazing better than 91. Please anyone reading this understand, my siggy yes I have a new Windows 10 BUT, am predominately and DAILY on the BEST FOR ME system Windows 8.1 Pro! Just so no others with same spec for their O/S can read that when such these updates are released they go straight to my Eight's Only. At least for the forseeable future

On another popular forum there has been much discussion about the security and privacy issues of using UC builds compared to Google Chrome. Basically that these UC builds are maintained by single individuals not a development team, and secondly there is a question of the internal binaries being possibly tainted or altered being open source.

From what I gather, the focus of UC builds is more on tweaking privacy aka stripping out Google telemetry than on tweaking security, the implication being that security enhancements come from Chromium.

All that said, what would be more advisable: to use a stable Chromium build such as Edge or Brave? Or stick with Google Chrome but tweaked aka as UC despite the question of the binaries. What would you do?

Of course I know there is the alternative of Firefox which can be tweaked further to be hardened for more security.

Edge or Brave, without a doubt.

In theory, but in practice they often lag behind official Chromium releases and often don't have the latest security patches.

those who are wondering that chromium since v93 got laggy on startup should set this switch in flags:
    https://www.chromestory.com/2021/05/strict-extension-isolation/

chromium spends each extension its own process, this could lead to a lot of processes.

the next one is site isolation: #site-isolation-trial-opt-out (not recommended)
this will put several sites on one process like firefox is performing now with tabs. if one process dies all pages on this process will crash too.

this may help out for very weak systems but has potential for security flaws.

Vital info @Brummelchen - Can we assume then that some of us who have recently experienced similar results showing up as extra processes with Chrome Stable Update can point to the same situation you raised with Chromium?

chromium v92 is not concerned, it started with chromium 93 (latest releases, not the first one). so this feature is coming up to you and others and i hope this flag will still be available. if not but with some luck it may be possible to activate that flag with the M93/M94 flag.

    from chromium 92

Thank you for participating. Unfortunately, I am not that kind of geek, but this fit my needs and I like to share such experience.

All major features of the latest Hibbiki portable stable Chromium builds have been working perfectly for me, especially with speech-to-text (which Edge and ungoogled Chromium can't do), so I finally discarded the always-outdated Slimjet for my Chromium browser needs.
