It looks good but main failing of MD, in my view, is its lack of detail on scans and inability to see results of any previous scans, all threats found and all actions taken. If DefenderUI was able to access/capture/store that sort of event & scan detail as well as providing a more coherent GUI to MD then it would get a massive thumbs up from me and I'd switch over to MD permanently & dump all 3rd-party AVs.

That UI certainly stands out better. Whether one depends on MD or another choice, that UI is much more neat and clean then fishing thru several clicks just to reach certain points in the settings.

I totally agree. Defender's proprietary UI has always been user-unfriendly, and paradoxically, if it's your core security, one needs to be able to navigate easily in order to keep control over it. AVAST is a good example of a decent UI for the masses.

I think Dan is on to something intriguing here. :)

I like the way how it combines basic setting, with advanced setting.
The advanced settings are similar to ConfigureDefenderMaster.

Yes indeed, the GUI looks great, I will certainly use this. It seems to be mostly the same as ConfigureDefender, but the GUI looks way better. It's truly a shame that M$ never came up with something like this, the current Win Def GUI is way too basic and unhandy.

M$ doesn't want users to modify settings, thats why they hide it ....

No doubt. MS has this "we know what's best for you" mentality

I do like the looks and concept of DefenderUI.

Dan...absolutely first class UI design IMHO...will certainly use as the Win Defender UI whether paid or free...but best of all is the 'rumour' that you are thinking of applying the design to VS...WOW. :thumb::D

    Respect, Baldrick

Don't be a plonker :isay:...if you took time to note when those comments were made you would realise that it was a while ago...and now given the imminent arrival of Windows 11 there is a good case for a change in UI. And in any case...if Dan has decided that he wants to update the VS UI...then that is his prerogative.

    :blink::geek:

uh-huh. except you seem juuust a tad over excited for the upcoming ui redesign that less than a year ago you thought was absolutely unnecessary.

Whatever...have you really got nothing better to do than be picky about something that happened a goodly while ago...I have moved on. o_O:confused::isay:

I say if you got the talent, and the where-with-all to add any spice to life-go for it and give it all you got :thumb:

But this includes options that are not included in Microsoft Defender's UI.

Dan will no doubt provide details on this as soon as he has completed more of the unfinished elements of the app. :D

    Hardly pointless options....

out of the box defender settings are quite weak....

using something like configure defender or this defenderUI you can easily configure a much more secure profile easily.

but once set once, theres no need to keep going back in and tweaking, set once and forget it

That may be the case for you specifically, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who would disagree.

I could not agree more. There is no need for add-ons or "enhancements" > if it ain't broke-don't fix it. I use it on five computers as it comes "out of the box" without any problems whatsoever.
