Folks...
I am trying to find a program where I can make a full image back up and rely on that the day I have the disaster over me I then will be able to go back to the point when my system worked
Reading page up and page down in this forum about Acronis True Image I do not see much about this program doing what is expected from it..

Pleas keep in mind I am a novis and just need help to do the right descition in getting a program that can help me to stay in good mood and able to enjoy my hobby - use my toy, the PC.

I haven't tested the LATEST versions of Ghost and TI. However, any imaging software that would require more than a few MBs of HD space isn't, IMO, an efficient and robust software. On top of my short list is Bootit ng. If you MUST have an imaging software that runs in windows, then I would recommend Drive Snapshot.

Avoid the bells and whistles found in Ghost and TI. Bootit's tech support is first class...custom response within 1/2 working day. With any imaging software, make sure that you can create AND restore the image file on your PC before you fork over any $!

 

I have been using ATI for about two years and have been very impressed with its capabilities. I have had 3 hard drives fail, and managed to get my system into an unusable configuration several times. I have used ATI with two Maxtor and an Iomega USB2 drives, and with CDs on two different computers. ATI has worked perfectly through all of these. I do all of my backups from Windows XP, do incrementals until I do a major upgrade or figure it is time to defrag the disk and do a new base image. I (and most) don't post much unless there is a problem or feature request, but I do try to answer questions on things I might have seen myself. Most forums today seem to be complaint boards, especially where new hardware introductions can cause problems. But ATI has been convenient and reliable for me throughout the two years of use, with different configurations, peripherals, computers. I consider it light years ahead of Ghost ( which I thought was a pain to use). Also, tech support has been very responsive on the minor issues I have had, has produced private beta versions to address specific feature requests, and is very easy to work with. So consider this a positive posting from a long time user who has no reason to consider using something else.

I agree totally with above...People are all too quick to criticise software when things go wrong...but not as quick to give positive feedback when all is well!

I have used ATI ver 7.0 to clone, mirror etc etc and have found it to be excellent. It is the only piece of software that i have found that will clone a hard drive with XP pro on a SATA drive and clone it to a PATA drive (standard serial) it is faultless and far better than Ghost!

I too have had great success with Acronis True Image.That was until I bought a new computer and found it utterly impossible to image to CDRom or DVD.

It's a S_ATA drive.Furthermore,I enrolled as a beta tester,and found that the beta release of Acronis TI server edition wont perform this simple function,either.(Yes,I do know a few tricks to accomplish the same result in a round-the-houses way,but bench marking is invalidated when you must take extra-curricular steps to achieve what the product promises)

This will all be sorted eventually,of course.Since I have found Acronis to perform very well in the past,I'm not about to desert it.

 

I too have had great luck with TI. Its a really good piece of imaging software. I am using TI 8 build 774. This build is working perfect on my system, and I have done countless image creations and restores.

Im an old ghost user from way back...and will tell you this, acronis true image is faster, and creates smaller images when set to do so, and so far I am REALLY liking it, aside from the boot cd thing I posted about....but thats a minor thing, really...
For a novice, I would say its easier than ghost....ghost isnt really designed for home users, period..I still have weird issues with it, after all these years...but thats just my opinion.....

 

How many people post how great software is... you will only hear from those having trouble... TI is a great program...

Folks thank you very much. I feel much much more interested in the TI product now.
I have been using Ghost on a Win98 system and managed to go back once.
But on my excisting WinXp home I have not been in the situation yet, so I do not know if it works??
But have read quite some about that TI might be more suitable for an unexperienced user as myself.

I will have to look further into this matter and might come back to you for more input and support.
