Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more (Discussion)

Updated to build 22000.71--got stuck for several minutes on 69% installed but then finished when I clicked on the Settings app, might be a co-inky-dink. Installed fine overall--both the cumulative and the .NET Framework.

I opened the right-click context menu (Start menu) over EASTER's avatar--yep, that's some acrylic blur right there. Faint but definitely there. Yes, I see the new Entertainment widget and now I don't cuz I ditched it. Anything else new worth mentioning? Oh and the Automatic Sample Submission turned off bug is still there.

 

Yeah I would send a report to them detailing the issues. Looks like Windows 11 is following the same Beta Test pattern with clients and user's as Windows 10 is been all along. Think we're use to that by now.

 

OK thanks, good to know that I will be able to install Win 11. I didn't know that this Lenovo laptop had the TPM 2.0 feature.

I agree with you, digmore, it is a trial baloon from microsoft. But I think that at the end their decisions will be made based on how much money microsoft makes. Not the landfills nor the customers needs.
So I bet they do render millions of computers obsolete. They have done before.

A friend of mine in the medical profession had to spend about $30K to upgrade a very small office, 3 or 4 computers, when win10 struck. It wasn't an issue of functionality, it was about liablity. If something happened to a customer's "stuff", the lawyers would beat her to death with the fact that her OS wasn't the most current, most secure, etc.

This is a tuxedo for a pig. I haven't seen anything yet that justifies spending money for any important changes in win11.

Most computers, that came with Windows 7 preinstalled, were capable of running Windows 10, and it is still free to upgrade. Maybe they bought new computers out of choice rather than necessity?

 

I don't remember for sure which OS she was running at the time. I do remember that it wasn't a choice.
To be fair, there was some specialized software involved.

Frankly Windows 10 in their view is already deemed obsolete and in the rear view mirror.
Windows 11 will eventually follow suit but in the meantime it's the newest best O/S system ever to grace the table and office desktop systems the world is ever seen right? Always ever so fluid and never a chance to break and immune to takeover artists.

Software developers will have no problem expanding and staying in business as long as there is always another Windows Version just around the corner.

 

...and as a primary Windows user (no sign of LINUX in your signature... I guess the "josh" got to you as well ), what would you expect to come of such a Corporate breakup and how do you think it would help the monopoly mentioned above?

 

No @TheRollbackFrog only that Windows 98 and some others was more an educational assist and method, but not the madness that seems to crept in to it's distributor(s).

As far as bust up, that would be a breath of fresh air but it looks to be out of touch if any competitors can compete given all the years that's swept by, and micro walked straight into the gov and came away with a fat piece of pie (gov contracts ala"taxpayer funded")

Well, in Jan. 1984, the "cube" appeared (Macintosh)... a full 23-mo. before Windows v1. The Mac interface had a far superior GUI compared to anything at that point, and even much better than Win v1 (nothing more than GUI for DOS) when it appeared in Nov. 1985. Something happened along the way, and to my knowledge, price was the biggest factor... and still remains so (I bailed from Mac use in 1995 at work), I could only afford a Windows PC at home ("Windows For Workgroups" and an Intel DX66 I believe).

UNIX was there, became Linux when PCs were affordable, and fractured to the extent that today, there's no way to compete with Windows. If there was a real Linux consortium that produced just a few versions (workstation, server, gaming, etc.) I think they would have a chance... especially since pricing would be very competitive as far as hardware was concerned. But as we've seen, that ain't never gonna happen.

Anyway, sorry for the sidebar... back to Windows 10.1

Excellent POINT!

Either way or whatever there's no apprehension in this camp to run with the trend and install a Win 11 and take the rest from there. Once such an announcement spreads like this newest version the O/S maker gauges response and of course they are in full on TEASE MODE to test feedback as well as bolster their (image)

I've looked up the specs of my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 (Intel based) and it does have the TMP 2.0 chip, so I'm not sure what you mean. But like I've said before, I don't see myself upgrading to Win 11, I see no must have features and I use my laptop mostly for web browsing, Win 10 is good enough.

So THAT'S WHY something normally simple as dragging say a Chrome shortcut refused to seat in taskbar.

Most of you know as a diehard Windows user since 98, skepticism of just what research & development bunch that they employ at any given period raises concern over routine minor issues that crop up and if those are machine related or deliberate function changes without notice.

 

Like right-click menu > Toolbars > New toolbar

 

Yeah, at this point you'd have to use the options in the right click context menus to pin and unpin stuff on the taskbar. I don't like the limited functionality. I hope the taskbar is more functional by release. If not I may have to consider it a deal breaker for upgrading.
