I know an Elderly couple who currently has McAfee Total Security. They want to try something different.

What is the ease of use of Bitdefender Internet Security?

I see that it comes with a VPN. They don't want a VPN. Is the VPN feature easy to disable or select not to install?

    Thanks in Advance.

Why not let them try built-in Windows Defender?

    They have Windows 10.

I thought that Windows Defender was already on, by default.

Yes, WD is already included in Win10, which is good for people who need an easy-to-use security solution that doesn't make it necessary to deal with numerous settings and pop-ups. My father-in-law, who is in his mid-80s, used Norton, KIS and BitDefender a couple of years ago. He found these apps too difficult to deal with. He is a happy camper now that he is using WD.

Yes and all mentioned except WD above have numerous "pop-ups" and warnings of various kinds that I find hugely annoying. WD is well behaved and offers as good protection as the others.

I'd absolutely recommend WD right now, especially with Andyful's firewall hardener. I don't think I'd use his Windows or Defender hardener with elderly people, but it's a great tool if you know what you're doing.

That being said, I like Bitdefender, after avoiding it for MANY years. But it had some slight issues that just proved a bit too annoying to deal with in my situation.

I do think that Bitdefender is overall the best choice for elderly people as Bitdefender takes care of everything automatically without requiring any user interaction for malware and PUPs combined. Microsoft Defender is usually pretty automatic too unless it detects a PUP where user's interaction will be required which may confuse some non-tech-savvy/elderly people.
Bitdefender Free would be sufficient in this scenario. But if you want to use one of the paid versions then make sure to turn off "Special offers" and "Recommended notifications" in the settings.
If you wanna go with Microsoft Defender then I would recommend installing the "TraficLight" extension in the browser, using "Configure Defender" and setting it to High.

im using BD Total security and all i can say it slows down my internet connection about 50% and if i have a big download it slows down my pc and starts laggin till the download is over.
i changed in the setting from BD the FW settings deactivated port scan protection or stealth mode but nothing changed....when i uninstall BD then my computer works fine....
the sad thing is that on the official forum which is also not really up to date.... there is no real solution to this problem and even from the developer comes nothing.

About three weeks ago I installed the Bitdefender Internet Security 30 day trial on their PC.

A few days ago, I went ahead and purchased a one year license and activated the license. The PC owner seems to be happy with Bitdefender.
