Certainly those who trespass and those who put themselves in scenarios where they need to be rescued, need to be charge with trespassing and/or being a public nuisance. And those needing rescuing need to be billed for those rescue services that otherwise cost us taxpayers.
Survivors should be banned under threat of imprisonment from being on any ChatGramTwitFace platforms including group messaging or sending more than 5 singular texts a day forever.
"Cellphone injuries have risen steeply over the past 20 years ‘Now people are literally just staring at their screens as they’re walking down Park Avenue’... Cell phone–related injuries to the head and neck have increased steeply over the recent 20-year period, with many cases resulting from distraction. Although the disposition of most cases is simple, some injuries bear a risk of long-term complications. Many of these injuries occurred among those aged 13 to 29 years and were associated with common activities, such as texting while walking. These findings suggest a need for patient education about injury prevention and the dangers of activity while using these devices..." https://jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...ign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=120519
"Selfie-seeking tourists risk death climbing erupting volcano... Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began erupting late on Dec. 20, including 164-foot-high “fountains” of lava, “occasion(al) blasts of uncertain origin” and clouds of toxic gas. Yet, the National Park Service reports, it’s consistently catching people trying to reach the summit, mostly after dark... 'Despite these potentially lethal hazards, park rangers have cited dozens of careless individuals intent on snapping a photo or video for social media bragging rights,' the National Park Service said in a release..." https://www.sacbee.com/news/nation-world/national/article248125095.html

It's the butt hole selfies that are most dangerous. You "let one rip" and the shock wave ricochet's off the cell phone back to you knocking you off the cliff ........
Mass insanity courtesy marketing handsets with too many science (convenience) advancements' What possibly could go wrong
While certainly tragic, I don't see this as a selfie incident. People have been visiting that site for centuries - long before the camera was invented. Just because someone takes a selfie of themselves in front of a tourist attraction, that does not imply they went there to take a selfie. It is not like 18 people all stepped off the edge of the tower while taking a selfie. That would be a dumb and newsworthy selfie incident. There are plenty of actual dumb selfie takers. No need to stretch the truth to add to the pile. Those 18 people went there to see the view, like 1000s have done for 100s of years. Was it dumb to climb the highest point around during a lightning storm? Sure. But that has nothing to do with selfies.
The lure was taking a selfie on the tower during the lightning storm: "....tourists were snapping storm selfies..."
I read the article. I think it is nonsense - just another wannabe journalist seeking attention for himself with exaggerated, sensationalized headlines instead of doing his job of reporting the facts. Did they get struck by lightning because they were taking selfies? NO! They got struck by lightning because they were standing on top of a tall tower during a lightning storm. The article, and in turn you, are implying they got struck by lightning because they were taking selfies - suggesting had they been on the tower just watching the storm, they would not have been struck by lightning. That's nonsense. The fact they were taking a selfie has no bearing whatsoever on the fact they were struck by lightning. The headline should say, "18 tourist on watchtower killed by lightning". Read the rest of the article. It talks about dozens more killed by lightning in the same and other parts of India - none were taking selfies.
The deceased victims remained on the tower during the storm so that they could take selfies in the storm. The smart ones survived by jumping off the tower to avoid the chance of being hit by lightning. "Deadly selfie during a thunderstorm. So the party ends up electrocuted... ...In detail, those 11[?] people affected by electric shocks were part of a group made up of a total of 27 individuals; the rest of the group managed to survive the lightning, suffering only a few injuries, throwing themselves off the same tower and rolling along the slopes of the Amer fortress which is located at a height of about 500 meters. According to the local police, visitors wishing to take selfies would have gone to the tower despite the fact that it was already raining and, while the former were looking for the best panoramic angle to take pictures, the rainfall would suddenly intensify..." https://www.italy24news.com/world/118581.html
Okay. I get it. You see no significance to the fact many many more, who were not taking selfies, died due from lightning strikes in the same region of India during this same storm pattern. None of that matters to you. Fine. I see no reason to debate this further.
