Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more (Discussion)

And because most people are just not willing to replace a PC that works fine now.

 

I have never used Windows Insider Program, so here's a dumbass question ...
If I create a separate Windows 10 instance on my one Win 10 laptop, and sign up for Windows Insider Program using my same usual MS account to test Win 11, could there be any unwelcome implications for my normal Win 10 e.g. should I disable Sync settings?
As Windows Insider Program appears under Update & Security I would assume it is Windows instance dependant, but just wondering about the Account aspect.
Or should I rather use a different MS account?

 

I have two different machines in Windows Insider one in the Dev and one in Beta channel. Both use the same account.

 

Well this member is all for eye candy sleekness and appearances in a supposed modern advanced O/S GUI across the vast horizon of a myriad of settings & features. But not entirely sure just yet until it actually is overlayed on my recent Windows 10 box how it will fit. We all always have that gnawing urge to dash and rush to the newest improved versions of anything.

There is one huge bright light that shined for me as far as 32bit compatibility. From Windows 98 I've carried over a massive collection of 32bit apparatus such as 3D windows with transparency on minimize along with some 32bit system monitoring programs that long have been forgotten with the introduction of 64bit yet still run every much as well without a hitch unlike some made for the newer systems. That much is to be grateful for. And that Microsoft is seen fit to still allow those to run on Windows 11 at all.

How well is yet to be determined, but is very beneficial not just to dress up or down the appearance but to enhance user friendly convenience with productivity.

If the idea was to strengthen the focus toward improvement to that end then it's something exciting to look forward to indeed. (which I kinda already do like others).

It would have been nice to learn more, and perhaps there is, of better enhanced and rock solid improvements in Windows 11 overall security every bit as much as the new sleek interface/design and features?

My take anyway.

As far as settings sync I guess the question is are you worried about things like shared themes and settings or are you worried that if you use an account to go 11 will it update any other PC to 11? If it is the latter then no, it won't update your other OS to make them all the same. If you are wondering about things like wallpaper backgrounds and browser history, it probably will sync those things unless disabled.

 

It's on their site as well but as others have stated, I would be leery that at some point Microsoft would release an update to break it later, leaving you to have to reformat and go back to 10.

 

I now also have Win 11 Insider Preview 10.0.22000.51, installed in a separate partition.
Can't say I am drawn to it, in fact the opposite. Task Bar is meh , no ability to add toolbar, can one reduce size?

 

That TaskBar center oriented is going to take getting use to. Its meh alright and looks to been copied from other GUI fronts.

I think the days for anticipation of a big splash on new versions are still generations away.

The updated Start Menu search gave me these results when I searched for Calculator.

 

Not happening here... maybe you have a corrupt instal?

 

Here is mine. Win11 updated to ver .65

 

I'd say at the very least the calculator is corrupt. I'll have to see what the repair options are tomorrow.

 

i've been running 11 for the last few days and i must say it's much snappier, lighter, faster and smoother than its (soon-to-be) predecessor despite being a dev release.
i love it and i'll switch over to it as soon as it's publicly released. well done, ms. this time you made it.

Positive initial review. Customers & users are going to just flip if they dare still roll forward with Windows 7 BackUp like they have on 10.

Surely to pete they recognize that Windows 8.1 Custom Refresh WIM Feature is by far and away the most stable and solid and RELIABLE Windows Backup they ever came out with it. While not a image backup per say, it's incredibly close. Never in all the times win 8 borked or I borked it did that Feature miss a single beat and restored Windows to picture perfect perfection. A rollback design of epic proportions if there ever was one. Its beside me how they can simply brush off one of the best Features they ever introduced for users when they or the system gets in a real pinch.

No substitute obviously for a third party image/backup program. I'll grant you that. But it sure saved from having to scramble for a backup restore when all it took was a REFRESH-even RESET perhaps. I never had to resort to a full reset, Refresh preserves users settings and retains user programs and restores a new Clean state.

You don't need to do that. Just enable Secure Boot and accept the default settings. It is easy. You can enable and disable Secure Boot as many times as you like. You can also disable CSM and you will only have half as many items in the Boot Menu as the Legacy items will no longer be present.

 

Has anyone noticed Win11 from a clean install (ISO) is not being updated? Windows Security updates only.

 

My mistake. I needed to join the Del Channel.
