    O.K.
Just updated another computer which has two external USB 3.0 disks and they
    work as expected.
So- the update works if your external disks are not SATA.
I think I will leave my main computer with the old update and perhaps
    someday someone will fix it.

I assume you mean eSATA? I assume they are "hot-swappable?"

My best guess at this point is Eset is treating drives connected to an eSATA port as internal drives; especially in the case where they're not hot-swappable.

Yes, eSATA but it always worked as expected before they issued the BAD update,
For the record, I just removed the eSATA drive and replaced it with a USB drive (just on my main computer).

For the record, I have two external drives on each computer since I run two different backup programs. (Better to be safe than sorry).

As far as eSATA is concerned in regards to hot-swapping:
I saw no mention of hot-swapping support for the Roswell HDD enclosure you are using. Of note is eSATA hot-swapping gives the drive USB characteristics in regards to the Win OS being able to detect if the drive is connected or not. Without eSATA hot swapping capability, Win OS will treat the drive as an internally connected hard drive.

My best guess is Eset is triggering off of Win device connected status.

    @jadinolf

Did the recent version 14.2.23 of Eset fix it?

I wasn't aware of any problems but YES I installed the update on all of my computers.

Oh, if you are referring to the eSATA thing, I haven't checked but doubt if they will ever fix it.
They are sloppy like so many others.

I will check now. Nope, no graphic when the drive is ready.

Let me hijack this thread and ask if anyone is experiencing long checking time for updates of ESET apps. I noticed this anomaly a few days back. Usually checking for updates goes swiftly but now it lasts several minutes.

    Hi,
Maybe the reason is that there were a huge number of modules updated today, at least on my system. I know that not everyone gets them always at the same moment, but it might explain it. I got 8 modules updated on regular release channel (that is some kind of record as far as I remember) and then I just got another one but haven't just looked which one.

OK, thx. In my case can play a role the Endpoint version. I will look after it.

In case you are interested, here is a comparison (using BeyondCompare) comparing info from 30 Nov 2022 (left side) and 07 Dec 2022 (right side).
Once again: not everyone gets them always at the same moment!

Thanks, I know. They're usually deployed in phases but I'm questioning the speed of updates checking, not own update process.

Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately a reboot didn't solve it. Anyway, I'll let it live on its own, the important thing is that updates always come through eventually.

A long checking for updates may be caused by having a proxy server configured in the program while having the fallback to direct connection if proxy is not available enabled and the proxy server being unavailable.
Anyways, I'd recommend posting in the ESET official forum at https://forum.eset.com where we will help you with further troubleshooting of the issue.
