Once ransomware attackers have breached a perimeter, their first target is not your data, but your backups.
Once they’ve corrupted those, they can move onto the shared storage.
This, of course, is old news, but like many other forms of cyber security, it is not well managed.
An air-gapped or extremely secured off site storage facility would assist in maintaining your information integrity.

But, as we all know, today is all about speed and simplicity - not security.
We all lock our cars and our homes, but our electronic equipment comes under the heading of "She'll be right mate".
It is with this knowledge that I know that I will always see a continuous stream of similar stories to brighten my mornings.
An attitude that some may not appreciate, but I'm not the conscience of a world that takes minimal responsibility for their non-actions.

The online copy of our backups can only be accessed by an account nobody else has access to but me, and offline copies are rotated on a regular basis. The time lost would probably be greater than the data lost.
