Mobile network standards work in roughly decade cycles — from 1G in 1980 to 5G in 2020 — so 6G is expected to be deployed in the 2030s, promising up to 100 times faster internet speeds than its predecessor. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-22/china-claims-its-lead-in-the-global-5g-rollout-and-6g-research/100165362
I think higher than around 100 Mbps speeds are unnecessary. But content producers in conspiracy with hardware manufacturers, cellular carriers & others will make 5G & up G necessary. A big suck to consumers wallets that's all. I won't be convinced otherwise.
