I've been playing with OnlyOffice for a couple of days (windows version). So far, I've found that loading the program is slow. Over ten pages of writing, it is painfully slow. Each letter takes a second or two to appear, which is confusing and really slows me down. I type watching the screen. I will continue using it through this week. The fonts are crisp and sharp, better than either Libreoffice or my favorite, Atlantis. If OnlyOffice magically speeds up, it might be a keeper. Right now, after 2 days, it isn't looking good.
I downloaded here, https://www.onlyoffice.com/en/download-desktop.aspx. It says free but mention paying for something. Before I install can somebody confirm no functions are crippled until you pay?
I haven't noticed anything crippled or not functioning in the word processing portion. Haven't used and probably never will use the others. Everything I've wanted to do has worked. My main complaint is what I posted above.
I like this! My check is to see how easy it is to print the selection of a spreadsheet on one page. Another is to how to sort the spreadsheet. I figure that if the program can do those easy enough it's pretty good. Unfortunately it has one big bugbear: the default language is US English and I can't change it. I can change it by document easy enough but I can't be bothered doing so every time I start a new one. It seems a pretty standard requirement to be able to set a default language for all documents. EDIT: Just removed LO as I love the minimalist approach of OO.
How do I get my dotx to open as a docx? I see how to save a dotx but don't know how to open it as a docx instead of a dotx?

A bugbear I had was its inability to navigate using the contents page of a large docx. I use a 400-page thesis as a test doc and it's working fine now. You still can't set a default language spellchecker, it opens with US English, and you have to set one of HM's variants when you open a blank doc. OO has a really simple menu bar - ideal for the casual user. For some reason it insists on placing new docs file in home directory. @Mrkvonic I've been reading an old review of yours, plus I remember you saying about why use Win 10 "The answer is rather simple: games and office." That brings me to a question: where exactly, software wise, does Mrk write his books?
I've answered that question on my books-only site and an occasional article on dedoimedo now and then, but I don't expect you to have seen and read all of them. The answer is, the simple act of writing - Libreoffice. Work with editors - Microsoft Office. 100% of them require Word+tracking, and in the end, it comes down to that. I can't afford to have a dangling paragraph or an odd character anywhere. Besides, apart from my desire to have as much flexibility as possible, Microsoft Office is a very good product. Mrk

I had two issues (I'm using Kubuntu 20.04) in Step 1 I had to insert -r so cp -r /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/converter/empty/cs-CZ $HOME/Downloads in step 6 I had to use the long version of $Downloads so sudo mv /home/ian/Downloads/da-DK /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/converter/empty/ Working fine with en-AU.
ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors version 6.4.1.46 available, https://www.onlyoffice.com/en/download-desktop.aspx. I tried Mrk's template test and they looked OK other than the colours being washed out.
Its designed to be simple in a world where office suites are behemoths. As Mrk noted, that can break people's workflow. Like that's a bad thing. People may need to retrain themselves to work smarter instead of harder. A tool after all, is just a tool.
