In this thread (and in other threads) there are numerous requests to make sure Sandboxie is working with some "STRANGE" programs, apps, etc...
And by trying to "modernize" Sandboxie in order to please all those STRANGE REQUESTS, the main PURPOSE OF SANDBOXIE is lost!
The most important goal for having SANDBOXIE is to BROWSE THE INTERNET SAFELY!!!
Need more from Sandboxie - run your system in a virtual environment.

Currently, BRAVE, VIVALDI cannot run in Sandboxie.

Why so aggressive? Calm down please.
I also have troubles with running a Chromium based browser, namely MS-EDGE, sandboxed. Disabling hardware acceleration from within the browser or renaming msedge.exe to firefox.exe works for me though as an interim solution. And some "strange programs" like one I am bothered with right above are sometimes absolutely necessary to be able to "browse internet safely", or to browse it at all under current circumstances.

Temporary workarounds for those using Vivaldi (and possibly Brave)
For those having difficulty running Vivaldi in a sandbox, here are my workarounds until David Xanatos sorts out the problem --- I force all browsers to run in a sandbox. I'm not a techie, and I have no idea why these things work, but they do.

    * Within the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Vivaldi\Application, copy Vivaldi.exe to a duplicate file named firefox.exe .
--- This file will open Vivaldi in any sandbox, or unsandboxed using Sandboxie /dfp .
--- Once any sandboxed (or unsandboxed) copy of Vivaldi is open, calls to the original vivaldi.exe will open Vivaldi in that same sandbox (or unsandboxed).
--- So the simplistic approach is to use firefox.exe to open Vivaldi in the desired sandbox, and then proceed normally.

    * But I dislike having to muck around at the start, so I did the following, because I have several Directory Opus buttons that open Vivaldi as part of their list of commands:
--- At first, on a couple of buttons, I changed the Vivaldi alias to call:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Vivaldi\Application\firefox.exe
but of course that will have to be changed back later.
--- I have been using Winaero's Win+R Alias Manager so that the simple command Vivaldi opens Vivaldi. (The software is at https://winaero.com/download-winr-alias-manager .) I have now changed that alias to call C:\Program Files (x86)\Vivaldi\Application\firefox.exe . I also needed to tick the box saying that the path to the EXE file is required.

    * I have a library of URL files. I cannot change Windows 'Open With' to firefox.exe because Windows complains for some reason, so I now need to open URL files with a button.
--- To open a URL in a trusted email, I have to copy the URL and paste it into a copy of Vivaldi.
--- Similarly with RoboForm, I need to copy and paste the URL (press Edit to see it).

I expect that similar workarounds would apply to the Brave Browser. Please give David Xanatos the respect that he deserves for all his very difficult work on this project. We are very fortunate that he has taken it on.

Do you know why Sandboxie is not updated lately? Don't get me wrong, I'm just asking, not urging. It is a very good and useful program.

    @DavidXanatos

I installed Sandboxie Plus and it works, but the protected Sandboxie folder icon doesn't show the usual Sandboxie Logo.
It's a "normal" Windows folder icon. I would wish you could change that to the previous look or use the new
Sandboxie Plus folder icon instead. I know this sounds funny, but I feel safer when it looks protected too.

I also have an issue with reading sandboxed Notepad .txt in protected folders. They simply don't start anymore.

Another more concerning issue I have with protected folders are images.
JPG and PNG images run un-sandboxed. I am not sure if this is a safety issue.
But the classic Sandboxie has this issue too.

By the way, thank you for taking over the best protection software for Windows and keeping it running for us all.

If by protected folders you mean Forced folders (folders you set as Forced folders), and your default jpg viewer is Windows photo viewer, then what you are experiencing is not a problem but just the way it is. WPV is not really a program but part of Windows, it can not be forced and will not run sandboxed out of a Forced folder.

The solution is to switch to another picture viewer so you can force this program (if you make the switch, this program will run sandboxed automatically out of a Forced folder when you click on a picture that's inside a forced folder). You can also navigate to the pictures using a sandboxed Windows/File explorer or right click the picture and choose to run it sandboxed.

FWIW, despite all this, I use WPV.

I run Windows Media Player as a Default app in Sandboxie's Default Box, what is the "same issue?" The yellow Sbie icon is visible in the context menu, the main buttons work and everything. :doubt:

From Sandboxie-Plus...you may run "usual" SbieCtrl UI (yellow "pizza" tray icon).
    png_10860.png
as test ~ Forced Folder C:\AdwCleaner - DefaultBox > call AdwCleaner Log file
    png_10855.png
as test ~ Run Explorer box > call AdwCleaner Log file (paste to Downloads folder)
    png_10857.png
as test ~ Run from Start Menu > Files and Folders > AdwCleaner
    png_10859.png
    png_10861.png png_10862.png
btw ~ wmplayer.exe runs forced, for me.

Forcing WMP has always worked. That function has never been broken but the program won't run sandboxed out of a Forced folder using the forced folder function. So, if someone uses WMP as default video player, it is better to set it up as a Forced program.

not sure if we speak about the same. i had a time where i can not run video files sandboxed using WMP as default player, no way. i need to find the thread about, maybe it was only in the old forum or on sophos server.

Scenario 1: Forcing WMP has always worked. If you Force WMP, videos will run sandboxed automatically when the default player is WMP.

If you run videos out of a Forced folder, the videos will run sandboxed in the sandbox in which you set WMP to run (not in the sandbox set for the forced folder).

Scenario 2: If WMP is not Forced and the player is your default player for videos, videos will not run sandboxed at all and this includes when executed out of a Forced folder.
    .........................

Brummelchen, WMP has he same situation than WPV in the sense that neither program will run out of a forced folder, but there is one difference, WMP has its own exe, so it can be forced. On the other hand, WPV runs using dllhost which can not be forced.

None of this is new, is not a problem and there is nothing to be fixed. Is like a weakness.

That has never been an issue either. The only situation in which WMP does not run sandboxed (now or before) is out of a Forced folder. I dont like thinking of this as a problem or issue but a condition.

WMP as WPV are very closely linked to Windows, that's what causes this situation. In the case of WMP, since it has is own exe, it can be forced via Forced programs. That is what people who uses WMP as their default player ought to do. The case of WPV is like the one of File Explorer, they can not be forced. WPV uses dllhost as vehicle to run, it doesnt have its own exe so can not be forced via Forced programs. Years ago, there were other programs, regular programs, that fell in the same situation. This were only 2 or three programs. One I remember was 7zip, but that was many years ago, 7zip has been OK for years and runs out of a Forced folder. But right clicking a file and choosing Run sandboxed has always worked as its supposed to.

Edit: That line I wrote and you quoted in your edit was in error. Bad memory.caused it when I wrote it.

You just don't know what you are talking about when you talk about SBIE almost every time. I posted here to help a guy who thought had an issue and you reply after my post did not help but muddled and threw confusion at SBIE like you always do.
