I still think the substantial extra heat generated by wireless charging is a detriment to long term usage 3yrs+ of devices. I have no idea how the heat issue is handled in remote wireless charging. I hope manufacturers don't take away the ability to charge devices by plugging them in.

Lol in 3 yrs there be new tech. Poor people might reuse phones for longer, but generally after 2-3 yrs it starts to get really outdated. Technology moves fast. Especially phone tech. I bought the 3rd highest antutu phone in 2017 (on par with the 1st and 2nd). A year later and it was already far behind the top antutu score.

Doesn't apply to what I wrote.

I'm using a four-year-old budget phone, and it's more than fast enough for what I use it for and has very good battery life. As long as that continues to be the case, I'll keep using it. It just seems silly to replace a phone that is working well. I don't place much important on AnTuTu scores. My phone is fast enough for daily use and that's all that matters to me.

I only replaced my previous phone because its battery life had deteriorated quite a bit and I couldn't be bothered disassembling the phone to replace the battery.

I have often read that, but I wonder how much it affects battery life. A friend has been using the same Note 2 battery for around 8 years. He charges it fully every night and still gets good battery life.

I bought a cheap 220 euro (equivalent to 267$ now) Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro at end of last year (there are better deals out there now, but at the time in my country that was the best deal) and MAN, it's such a huge difference from the 2017 phone I had. It's like night and day, so amazing. Only think I wish I knew was dual speakers. Meaning speakers from both the top and bottom of the phone. Because I often watch youtube on it and I almost always watch in horizontal mode / landscape, so then the bottom of the phone is on the right side and it's like having only your right earbud work, quite annoying. My 2017 phone had speakers on both top and bottom. But oh well, next time I buy phone will research more. Also this battery is 5020 Mah and it lasts like 2X longer as my old phone battery at the end of its life. Seriously, who could have thought u could buy a phone for 200 euro that is this good? It was half the price of the phone I bought in 2017, and that one was from China so it was already very cheap to begin with.

That said, the hardest part of removing the battery is not the battery, it's putting the screen back on and glueing it... Not to mention if you leave even the slightest of holes (meaning the screen is not glued 100% perfectly) the sound from the top of the phone will start getting distorted because it's not supposed to have holes between the screen and the phone itself. When I changed my battery, I slightly punctured it trying to remove it... It started smoking and stuff. But otherwise it's pretty easy to remove battery, if only you didn't have to remove screen too. But I ******** that too after breaking 2 screens cuz I accidentally pulled the connector that connects the screen to the motherboard, which btw is made so stupidly if you break 0.0000000001 nanomillimeter of it, bam it's gone, go order a new screen and wait a month from aliexpress because it's a chinese phone (and if it's not from China, screen is not gonna be cheap). So I finally decided, **** this ****, let's get a new one, and lo and behold, now I am happy my old one broke. I was just like u, I thought, well my phone is just fine. It's not the fastest, but it's 1080p and it was the fastest back in May 2017, so it's still fast enough, right? But this new phone is absolutely amazing. The camera quality for example is night and day difference. I can take crystal clear picture and everything, the colors and everything gets automatically adjusted, so the picture always looks amazing. Here's a pic of a cat I took with this phone

Can you see it? Can you see how absolutely amazingly brilliantly magnificently majestic it is? I could never do that with my old phone, nor can you. I also have Android 10 with every 3 months updates for the newest security patch (no need of custom rom), IPS, water and scratch protection, much faster cpu and gpu, amazing camera as u could see, I can also record videos in 1080p 60fps or 4K 30 fps, and lots more. Oh and the camera has HDR, both cameras (main and selfie). And all that for 220 euro (prob cheaper now), can u imagine this? Waaaaay better and waaaaay cheaper than the flagship phones of few years ago. Absolute banger. If that pic didn't convince you, idk what would.

@Floyd 57 There definitely are good reasons to upgrade. But I'm happy with my current phone (Redmi Note 4X) as it does everything I need. I'm running custom Android 10 firmware and when I got round to it, will flash Android 11 firmware.

To be honest, I don't think I would be using it because it's probably not safe. Heck, I try to avoid WIFI, Bluetooth, 4G, 5G and what not as much as possible. I did read that currently it only works from a distance of about 1 meter and it will stop charging when it detects a certain object, go figure.

But anyway, I saw something else that's very cool and I wonder why this hasn't caught on yet. I would definitely buy this stuff, it would be so cool to never have to plug in your laptop again, awesome stuff. Apparently it's made by a company from France called energysquare, I think this can become big. I'm surprised that Apple isn't already offering wireless charging for laptops.

That pretty much kills the purpose of wireless charging. In my opinion, handling a cable is not a big deal. It's only a big deal if you're using the laptop while charging it too, because then the cable would have to go through stuff and you'd have to be close enough to an outlet or use a power strip. But if it charges slowly, then it depends on how slowly it charges. If it charges enough so that you can use it WHILE wirelessly charging, that's great. But if not, it depends. Like, let's say you charged it to 100%. Then you wanna use the laptop but u don't wanna deal with cables and outlets and whatnot. Now you can wirelessly charge it while using it, so this way its battery span is improved. But yeah.

Didn't you visit those sites? This solution from energysquare allows you the keep using the laptop while charging and even promises the same charging time as when the laptop, tablet or smartphone is plugged in into the wall, so these guys are geniuses. I'm guessing the tech is not good enough yet, but I'm sure we will see this coming up in more and more laptops.

So let's say you work from home, you might sometimes work behind the kitchen table and sometimes behind your home office desk. If battery runs low, no problem, you place it on the wireless charging mat in one of these places or perhaps even in bed, without having to worry about the AC adapter anymore. I would buy this stuff without even thinking twice!
