Worked here also. Update installed with no problems. Settings, definition files and scheduled tasks remained unchanged.
It has the same new UI and new features that main Reflect does (making image backups of SD cards and flash drives, support for exFAT/ReFs, tbFAT driver I think, etc.)
When creating a backup image, I used to uncheck the box which says automatically generate a name and give the backup a meaningful name (ie. Factory_Image). Now if I do that, it still adds some random string before the name. Does anyone know how to change that?
I haven't followed this thread for a while, is there any important developments in V8 to justify an upgrade at this stage?
In the backup wizard, click Advanced Options (lower-left corner), then select Backup Set File Name Prefix and disable that option. But the Image ID is included by default, triggers a warning when disabled, and cannot be set to disabled by default, because the Image ID helps group backups that are part of the same set together. According to Macrium, and my own experience helping people on their forum, in earlier releases of Reflect where you could choose either only an Image ID or only a custom string, users who chose the latter frequently ended up in situations where they had files named like this: my backup name-00-00.mrimg my backup name1-00-00.mrimg my backup name3-00-00.mrimg my backup name-01-01.mrimg my backup name1-01-01.mrimg my backup name-02-02.mrimg That made it rather difficult for some users to figure out what backups they had, how they were related to each other, and what they could safely delete.
Not sure if it helps, but you can move the Image ID after your chosen filename like this: My Backup {IMAGEID} It won't let you insert IMAGEID from the list, but you can choose any of the other options then overtype it.
Maybe a dumb question, but can one upgrade from V7 to V8 and retain the same schedules and backup chains - or does one need to start afresh? Edit: Dumb question. Yes, I see upgrading to v8 will retain all settings and image data. Edit 2: Upgraded two licenses without issue, 50% off.
Updated today after receiving notification that the update was available on starting Reflect. Website is pretty clear with option for existing users to check their entitlement to 50% discount upgrade from previous versions. Only thing I though was a bit silly with upgrade process was that I was given option to upgrade both v6 & v7 having upgraded from v6 to v7 previously. If I hadn't been paying attention I'd have been charged for two upgrades (v6->v8 & v7>v8 ). I had to deselect the v6>v8 option as all were selected as default. All installed okay. Backup/restore worked fine on first test as did new rescue media. On new UI I'm not impressed with presentation of existing backups tab ~ the two columns (Folders/Path) could have been more clearly separated ~ on first glance I thought I had a corrupted page as it all looked jumbled together
Thanks, I don't understand some of the changes, but the feature that is interesting to me, albeit it happened once in the past, is the 'Automatic partition resizing when restoring or cloning to different sized disks'. I don't think I will upgrade anytime soon tough...
A guy on Twitter Tweeted to the Macrium Official Twitter account asking is V8 released yet? I tweeted back to him pointing him to the MajorGeeks link which has the V8 download. Then Macrium official accounts replies to both of is:
I have been trying to contact them and I only receive an error message when attempting to send my info so as to take advantage of the free upgrade they owe me due to the offer they made this past February. I suspect they are blocking due to overwhelming response to V 8 release. Anyone else seeing this?
I went ahead and upgraded this morning. Everything worked fine. I was actually surprised at how smoothly it went.
For what I do, I find no value anymore in the Home Edition. All I do is install Windows, tweak it, install drivers, take a base image. Install all other software later and have the computer running as I want, take another image. I have F-Secure Antivirus for security, AdGuard, and thus I don't need these incremental backups or ransomware protection.
I went to the site to see what it would cost and it does not recognize my V7 keys and when I go to help and contact I get a site error! OH well! I got an email with a link in return but that does not work either!
See HERE for the current license costs. All the discounts given to existing license holders so far have been 50%.
