Another way to look at it is Lifetime saved me a lot of money. Still using Premium Lifetime MBAM on PC's for the last 10+ years (and still good) and I have had my SAS Lifetime licenses also for over 10+ years before they went to Avira. So I guess I got my money's worth with the Lifetime License compared to paying a yearly subscription. So I guess we are all not Fools as we all saved money in the early years.;)
PS: I wouldn't buy Lifetime today (If you can find Lifetime anywhere).

In my opinion lifetime licenses sometimes are a good purchase.

I purchased a lifetime license for Malwarebytes in 2013 and I feel it was money well spent. While I've never had a need to use its realtime or web protection, I was happy to support the developers. I don't actually use it on my main computer anymore. But maybe one day I will. It's still an excellent product in my opinion, but I just don't feel the need to use second opinion scanners much, as I never encounter malware.

I purchased Outpost Security Suite Pro the same year. I could only use it for a three years, as it was discontinued.

I own lifetime licenses for several VPNs. Buying a cheap lifetime license, works out a lot cheaper than paying a monthly subscription.

To get back on topic. I never purchased a lifetime license for SAS. Back when it had very good detection rates and was an excellent product that I regularly used, I didn't have a need to use the Pro version, so never purchased a license. When I first heard about the AI powered SAS X Pro a few weeks ago, it sounded very interesting. However I was disappointed to read this thread and find out that it is using Avira signatures. I don't see anything bad about it using Avira signatures, but the way the AI technology is hyped on the SAS website, it sounded like they had developed their own new scan engine.

Just about every antivirus/anti malware product using third party signatures these days, is using Avira, although there are occasional exceptions.

As an example, the following are all using Avira signatures.
    • 360 Total Security/Total Security Essential
    • Glarysoft Malware Hunter
    • ITL Total Security
    • Major AV
    • Scanguard/TotalAV
    • Systweak Antivirus
    • Wise Antimalware

Conditioned by the word, "sometimes," I agree.

Long ago, I bought a subscription to Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (MBAE) when it was a stand-alone. After, MBAE was incorporated into their main app (MBAM), they have continued to remain loyal to their stand-alone MBAE customers. We still get updates in the form of their latest beta. MalwareBytes is a highly ethical organization IMO.

Just installed SAS in my PC after a long time, and activated the lifetime license. I was expecting to see Avira engine and databases, but couldn't find any reference. Has they removed the engine?

Avira engine is exclusive to annual users only (for now).
