Google just wants to look like your friend while it spies on you and tries to take over the world.
    :p

p.s. - I use Irfanview, tried, and still have installed, xnview - but Irfanview remains the default.

    Is this XNview only?
I switched recently to FastStone Viewer, was backup option to xnview, now primary. and was added with faststone capture.

Same. Irfanview is about as natural for these systems as sun up and sundown.
XnView is still used on rare occasions to try different features it has.
Which reminds me i'm going to have to switch away from Windows 10 audio player too. It's so lame to click an MP3 and a delay effect window pops up before the audio can even sound off.

I've been using Imagine (portable free/donationware) as default for WEBP and GIF files on Windows 10 and might eventually make it the default for all image formats: https://www.nyam.pe.kr/dev/imagine/

It's super lightweight on my old, budget laptop and has plugins for many non-standard image formats.

I use the HC version of MPC for mp4-mkv-avi-wmv etc video films. Windows Media Player handles mp3 and wav Audio.
MS acts they are run by script kiddies anymore. Click on Windows 10 WAV or MP3 and your stuck waiting for that stupid Groove GUI to load and suck down unnecessary resources and is ridiculous as usual like everything else they try
