I updated it in the morning, but if I check for update now I get the same error.

Edit: Both worked eventually, after several retries.

Wondering whether it's related to my absolute incapability to open the Microsoft Store. Tried every "fix" I could find (Powershell to reinstall, reset, etc.)

If someone's going to report that the Store is available, please break it to me gently.

I can open the store in Edge and Vivaldi (Edge is on V 90)

I can open Microsoft Store (the one for Windows apps) but can't check for Edge updates.

EDIT: don't know how to break it gently

I got this trying to connect just now.

from this source. Trying to find explanations, not just for the Edge update outage but for inability to open MS Store and sign into Feedback Hub. I'm thinking possibly they're related, but it's just speculation.

I notice edge://components is showing a row of Update Errors under each component, which has just started today. I expect it's related to the above.

As of 11 pm ET, I had no problem updating Chromium Edge and my Store apps. Afterward, I installed the April CU from MS Catalog with no difficulties on version 20H2.

Edge did update from v89 to v90.

However, Edge WebView 2 remains at v89, while v90 is available.

Any way to manually force an update?

An NVIDIA staff member has suggested users roll back to an earlier version of Windows 10 to resolve gameplay issues on devices using NVIDIA GPUs.

Since Microsoft released the April 2021 cumulative updates, gamers have complained about frame rate drops and stuttering while playing games.

"For me it gives a huge problem on vsync usage. When using vsync it can’t hold a steady 60 fps. It drops like mad to 55 or 40. Without vsync the same game renders on 180+ FPS. I uninstalled it and it is back to normal. Not installing any updates till this is fixed," stated another user in the same Reddit thread.

As first reported by WindowsLatest, in response to these complaints, an NVIDIA staff member suggested rolling back from March 2021's optional KB5000842 preview update to resolve the issues. KB5000842 contains the same Windows 10 changes as of April's KB5001330 update but without the security fixes.

"If you are seeing lower performance in games, check if rolling back Windows 10 Update KB5000842 solves the issue," an NVIDIA staff member commented in the NVIDIA forums.

NVIDIA recommended that users uninstall the recent Windows 10 updates to resolve these issues in response to these complaints, which did resolve the problems but left people open to security vulnerabilities fixed in the recent updates.

Last night, Microsoft released an emergency fix for Windows 10 2004 and 20H2 to resolve these issues.

"A small subset of users have reported lower than expected performance in games after installing KB5000842 or later updates. Most users affected by this issue are running games full screen or borderless windowed modes and using two or more monitors," Microsoft stated in the Windows 10 2004 and Windows 20H2 known issues and notifications site.

This fix is being rolled out using Microsoft's Known Issue Rollback (KIR) feature to send out a minor fix via Windows Update, which should propagate to affected users within 24 hours.

"This issue is resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the resolution to propagate automatically to consumer devices and non-managed business devices. Restarting your device might help the resolution apply to your device faster."

While these fixes are distributed via Windows Update, they are not delivered as an actual update. Therefore, there is no easy way for Windows 10 users to know when a Known Issue Rollout fix has been delivered.

When it gets installed, and you reboot your system, your going to get that percentage/progress thing that happens with updates, so if you see that instead of a quick reboot you'll know it got installed.

After Microsoft recently used the Windows 10 Known Issue Rollback (KIR) feature to fix performance problems while playing games, users learned that disabling experiments prevents the KIR fixes from being installed.
Microsoft's Known Issue Rollback feature uses Windows 10 telemetry and diagnostics to determine if many people are affected by a particular issue after a new update is released.

However, for those who disable Windows 10 experiments using the Registry Editor, it will prevent KIR fixes from being installed.

A recommended setting in ShutUp10
A popular freeware utility called O&O ShutUp10 allows Windows 10 users to manage various operating system and software settings that increase privacy on their computers.

One of the recommended settings is 'Disable conducting experiments with this machine by Microsoft,' which prevents Microsoft from running experiments on your device.

Therefore, ShutUp10 users should disable this setting when Microsoft announces a new KIR has been released so that they can receive the update. Once the KIR is installed, they can enable the setting again.
