This is a tiny but frustrating problem. I have set up my System Tray icons the way I prefer, however every second restart or so, windows decides to stop displaying the icons and I am left with just the system icons for sound, internet connection and power on display. Everything else is available, but hidden. Every time I then need to go to Taskbar Settings > Select which icons appear, which is a tedious and seemingly endless process. I would much appreciate any help
Not quite an antivirus, I use Wise Vector antimalware. I occasionally run Wise Disk Cleaner, probably a couple of times a month, while the problem I described happens maybe twice a week - I usually restart every couple of days
I'm sure you prefer a permanent resolution to that Windows annoyance and perhaps a member will have you try something. Although i'm on Windows 8.1. I periodically get that same frustration crop up only in reverse. With my particular issue the volume icon and others even being greyed out when I finally browse to the settings for tray icons. In my case I weekly create a registry only backup using RegBak and/or Tweaking.Com Registry Backup. Which leads me to think someway somehow the issue I experience resides in an occasional (hiccup) corrupted key or value. Nature of Windows. After doing a simple registry restore everything in my task bar returns to normal and stays that way until the next time it decides to bug a boo
Are you using a registry cleaner? A good many of them delete the value for the layout of the tray, in an effort to clear it of anything no longer installed.
I run Wise Disk Cleaner, probably a couple of times a month, while the problem I described happens maybe twice a week. Having said this, I noticed that I had the notification icon icon cache selected, I unselected it and will see if it's the culprit. Hoping that this suggestion you made, as well as @Brummelchen, handles the annoyance.
