Thanks, Jan Willy--obviously in hindsight, this was far too few entries. Since I don't use the AdGuard DNS, I have imported the EasyList/EasyPrivacy cname block-list with currently 3215 entries. That's more like it. :thumb:

Oh, and I happened to see an entry at FilterLists/Subscriptions for NextDNS CNAME Cloaking Blocklist, (for AdGuard, not uBO). I don't use this either, but I recall someone's having written about it, either here or at Malwaretips. I don't want to use too many lists with too much overlap but there's another option, I guess.

That list may be out of date.
Better to update all caches and use the AdGuard Tracking Protection list (in UBO).

P.S. CNAME rules in today's AdGuard Tracking Protection list are 3857.

Oh really? OK. Well, as Jan Willy correctly pointed out, this thread is uBlock Origin and anything AdGuard-related is off-topic. So, I will have to leave things as: I will look into this further but consider 3215 entries a vast improvement over 2 thus far. :)

These lists are creating some confusion among users.
    There are 2 lists:

    • AdGuard CNAME original trackers list:
This list is supposed to be used only by Software capable of scanning CNAME records.

    https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AdguardTeam/cname-trackers/master/combined_original_trackers.txt

    • AdGuard CNAME disguised trackers list (with an additional list of domains only):
The list of trackers that disguise the real trackers by using CNAME records. Use in any traditional content blocker.

    P.S.
Today's update for the Easy Privacy CNAME list also increases its total rules.

    A Babel of choices.

Manifest V3 will limit the number of rules UBO can use to 150K. When do we have to get our filters under that limit of 150K. What happens if we are over the limit.

When that happens, I guess it's time to ditch Chrome in favour of Firefox.

I think we should wait for the comment or change log from gorhill. manifest v3 calls about limited rules, but not limited lists which ublock can handle, I think that ublock is able to switch and apply different lists.

Who would have 150K rules in UBO.

Chrome v88 had a rules limit of 30k which is now 300k in v89. Is that what happened.

I have about 160,000 rules on uBO-Firefox with a mostly stock configuration, though with an additional 18,000 rules from a cookie notice list and 20,000 from a phishing block list.

OK thanks. But I really think you should be able to allow certain scripts to run like with old versions of uBlock. I have chosen to install Ghostery and to disable uBlock on sites that it breaks.

Guys, I have read all of the posts but I'm a bit confused. Which filterlist do I need to use in order to block CNAME tracking?

You still can. Just manually change a noop rule into an allow.

Either AdGuard Tracking Protection filter *or* Easy Privacy. Both incorporate most of the CNAME filters except for those that are flagged as possibly causing excessive site breakage.

No you are misunderstanding. I want to be able to do it via uBlock's GUI. With old versions you still had the greenbox in order to allow scripts, now it's just grey and red. I still don't understand the logic behind this. With Ghostery you can easily allow blocked scripts.

OK thanks, didn't even see the "AdGuard Tracking Protection" filter. I do believe I disabled Easy Privacy wayback because it broke a couple of sites.

So, winnowing things down may not be as challenging when "push" comes to "shove." Plus, the browsers run fast and very smoothly. It's time to wait and see with this Manifest v.3. Not considering to switch to Firefox at this time.

Allow means that you not only disable the dynamic rules but also the filterlists (static rules). Noop is only related to the dynamic rules.

In that case, I would recommend using the AdGuard Tracking Protection list. Personally, I use Easy Privacy with Fanboy's Enhanced Tracking List, but I haven't had as many site breakage problems as other users have reported. (I find the Firefox built-in tracking protection causes a lot more problems than any of the uBO lists.)

Hover your mouse pointer over the cell, then double-click the <Ctrl> key. The green box option will show.
