Happy Friday. Huh. Here's an article slash rant about the poor quality of applications and operating systems in the modern era, with updates that break functionality and constant regressions in the software stack, covering both philosophical and practical implications of modern software development. Try to have fun, if you will. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/modern-os-marvels.html Cheers, Mrk
Thanks. One thing: I don't get why the Battle of Thermopylae is illustrated with the Charge of the Light Brigade.
To see if people notice like I did with Kirk vs Picard photo and Star Wars reference in a different article Mrk
Of course, Tennyson had a different spin on the Charge of the Light Brigade, although I'm pretty sure he ran Ubuntu.
This applies across the board - whether it's sneakers or software. We are always told that a product has "been improved" for our benefit. As you have written, sadly that is not the case. But, your experience is much worse than ours because your are a nomad. Most of us find an OS and fine tune it to our needs. You, on the other hand, are forever testing different systems [for which we are all very grateful] and keep running into hurdles and barriers that must be constantly overcome. You are destined for a life of gloom along this path. So, as they say in the classics - love your work - keep taking the meds, because we all need to know what to avoid, or how to fix it. And for that we rely on you.
I dunno, I'm with Tennyson, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS seems pretty good to me so far. Mind you, I haven't tested the Bluetooth yet. Probably best not to ...
I was finally able to successfully upgrade to Win 10 20H2 yesterday, and it actually went quite well, other than being painfully slow to complete. There were a good handful of related updates after the upgrade, and they installed seamlessly too.
