    Hi, this is my first time using this program and it's very overwhelming. Can someone explain the sandbox presets, please? Would these presets make it more secure? And I'm wondering about the registry keys, do they also get sandboxed, so when I delete the sandbox would they also get deleted? I tried the help section on the website but it was pretty outdated. Thanks in advance, and thank you for continuing this.

    My best recommendation for you is to use Sandboxie for a while with default settings. That is really the best way for new users to begin using SBIE. And as you go, and you learn what the settings and restrictions do, then you start making changes.

    I think by presets you mean settings. Think of this. The main part of Sandboxie is the sandbox. The sandboxing protection comes by default. So, the settings are like gravy, extras. You can use them to loose or harden the sandbox. Make it stronger or weaker.

    IMO, the only exceptions/changes first time users should do to Sandbox settings on day 1 are 1. Set the sadbox to delete on closing, and 2. Allow bookmarks to be saved out of the sandbox.

    Sandboxie also protects the registry. So, any changes made to the registry by a program running sandboxed, get deleted when you delete the sandbox.

    @Olympus yes the registry is sandboxed too, you find the hive file in the sandbox. About the options there is no complete help, but if you read through the thread you will find some answers.

    Complicated programs won't install sandboxed. If programs try to do too much, more than what Sandboxie allows, the program will not install. That is probably the case for fl studio. Also, to install programs, you should use a sandbox with default settings. If you restrict, installations are likely to fail. If you tick/enable Drop rights, programs will not install sandboxed.

    IDK....I do not run Kaspersky.... archive help page says...
    https://sandboxie-website-archive.github.io/www.sandboxie.com/KnownConflicts.html#Antivirus
    Why do you want to sandbox FL Studio installer....just as test?
    Note: I tried to sandbox FL Studio installer (Current user only)...just as test.
    Note: I doubt FL Studio installer runs, as designed, sandbox'd.
    Do you run FL Studio?
    Maybe, install FL Studio on host and try FL Studio installed main executable sandbox.
    https://github.com/DavidXanatos/sandboxie-docs/blob/main/Content/SandboxieKnownConflicts.md#not-all-programs-can-be-installed-inside-sandboxie
    Edit: as test ~ installed FL Studio on host and called shortcut sandbox.

    FL Studio n'or Kaspersky are likely off topic. I'm done. Cheers

    I gave up on Kaspersky years ago because it was incompatible with Sbie. Been using AVG ever since and they coexist well most of the time; after setting a few exclusions in AVG.

    I have uninstalled a old version of Sandboxie.
    I just tried installing the latest release of Sandboxie Plus on my Windows 8.1 laptop and it won't install.
    I get to the window where it's saying I need the provisional driver for Windows 7. Does it say this no matter what version of Windows it is being installed on?
    What do I do when I get to this window that pops up?

    Curious, did you scour File Explorer for remnants after uninstalling old Sandboxie and restart machine?
    Did you see -

    I've not seen "need provisional driver for Windows 7" on W10 machines.
    Curious, was 8.1 machine ever Windows 7?

    Where abouts should I be looking for leftovers in File Explorer?
    I uninstalled Sandboxie using 'BCUnistaller' and it found leftovers which I deleted.
    I've only ever used Sandboxie in it's simplest form. I'm wondering if I should try 'Sandboxie-Classic-x64-v5.48.5' instead? Perhaps that will install without any problems.
    Has this 'Classic' version had the security issues fixed, and will it continually be updated in the future?

    Classic is like the old Sophos build version 5.33.6 and Plus is with new features.
    If you're long time Sandboxie user....you may feel more comfortable with Classic. If you're new user....I'd urge Plus...since, developer wants users to embrace Plus.
    Plus & Classic builds share core components. Sandboxie-Plus (installer) installs shared core components to Sandboxie-Plus folder. SandboxieInstall (installer) installs core components to Sandboxie folder.
    Plus users may run Plus UI or Classic UI.

    Just a question @DavidXanatos : is the "Raw Disk Access" related to these options i have for all my sandboxes?

    ClosedFilePath=\Device\Harddisk1\DR*
    ClosedFilePath=\Device\Harddisk1\
    ClosedFilePath=\Device\Harddisk2\DR*
    ClosedFilePath=\Device\Harddisk2\

    Are now enabled by default?

    With the fixes related to raw disk access, it now should no longer be required to close these paths by manually in the ini
    access to such paths is no blocked by default.

    Have been unable to install 5.49 on a Win7 32 bit machine. Get the red exclamation mark in the SBIE taskbar icon and an error message (sorry didn't note number) about a problem with a service. Tried installing over 5.48.5, tried uninstalling 5.48.5 and installing clean (while saving settings) and tried installing 5.49 over already installed 5.49 but nothing worked so for now sticking with 5.48.5 which has been working without issues.

    Anyone else with similar problems?

    Yep getting exactly the same! Not fired up this spare Windows 32 bit [fully updated] box in a while but today I thought I`d change Sbie over to 5.49...anyway, did all the prerequisite stuff like grabbing the package, uninstalling the old [5.33.3] version yet there was always the error

    "SBIE9234 Service startup error level 9153 status=C000035A error=-1073740966"

    The driver SbieDrv.sys is there in the Program Files -> Sandboxie folder. Iv`e checked out the driver and it says certificate has been revoked by its certification authority, manually tried Install Certificate...no change...done all sorts...no change...glad it`s not just me :)

    Thanks for informing 5.48.5 works, will try that for now.

    Cheers.

    Just a thought for the people having problems installing 5.49 over the top - do you use Edge (Chromium)? Edge recently updated with a new setting (under System) called "Start up boost", which is enabled by default. It prevents Edge from fully shutting down. I discovered this when ccleaner repeatedly warned me that Edge needed to close first before the cleaner could complete. I then discovered my sandbox wasn't autodeleting as it usually would (have set it to do same) - it had to be emptied manually. I know from past sandboxie forum posts that you can run into problems if you try and install sandboxie without fully emptied sandboxes. So I'd suggest you turn start up boost off, and manually delete all sandboxes you may have used Edge in before attempting to update. I have installed 5.49 on 5 machines over the top, with absolutely no problems.

    Of course this may have nothing to do with your particular problem, but mentioning in case it does.

    The status code 0xC000035A indicates that the driver image is 64-bit which cannot be loaded on a 32-bit system. Looking in the Provisional Drivers package, it looks like the 32-bit version has been replaced by the 64-bit version by accident.

    Pretty sure this laptop was only Windows 8.
    I've just tried installing the latest Classic version and it says Windows blocked the installation due to driver not being signed?
    Do I install the Provisional Win 7 driver?
    Update: Just re-read one of the links you sent previously and for Win 8.1, the Windows alert about the driver pops up, but does actually install.
    Not tested it yet, but is it possible to add Sandboxie to the Context menu, which I had previously?

    ^Yes

    Mistakes happen [fixed now], glad it was easily rectifiable, at least it wasn`t a potential system hosing one...

    p.s. Thanks for the Edge tip, I`d wondered why there was suddenly a load of Edge processes running when it wasn`t started!
