I swapped the drive in my desktop to a Samsung 860 EVO at Xmas, one of the first things I did was uninstall Magician.
Last time I used Magician was for installing the updated firmware for my 980 Pro as it will alert you to things like that. Did nothing to improve the reduced write speeds on here, but anyway. I also ran the benchmark utility it has. It invokes the Windows TRIM. Since my drive is plenty empty, I don't use over-provisioning--the less messing around w/this disk, the better and I want no real time monitoring from this software, ever. Once I have used Magician for whatever, I uninstall it completely.
Thanks for your answers, but how come Magician has TRIM enabled but Windows reports TRIM to be disabled?
Well I'm not too sure about that. As I replied to @Spartan, although TRIM is definitely enabled in Magician, Windows reports TRIM to be disabled!
This is where I got my info. It's somewhat vague, to be sure. But that's my understanding of it. You have to scroll down a little to get to the TRIM part. https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/support/faqs-03/
Do you check for firmware updates yourself? I recommend periodically checking for firmware updates, as sometimes new firmware versions include important bug fixes.
And if you're using Samsung OEM NVMe drives, which are usually found on some Lenovo desktop PC computers, you can force(in device manager) to use EVO drivers. I did that, and according to Crystal Disk Mark, overall speeds went up to approx 10%. I ran O&O Defrag (solid method). The speed increased, especially when dealing with small files, approx 3%. So overall, very welcomed speed up to my OEM Samsung NVMe drive. I have not noticed any problems forcing EVO drivers. Sure, it might not work on some Lenovo systems. It worked for me and the speed increase is always welcomed. -sepik
In addition to what @roger_m said, do you also find Magician's over-provisioning and/or rapid mode to be worthless?
I would only check for a firmware update if something is broken. Wendi, seeing I uninstalled it right away I have no idea what those are. Basically if it works I won't worry about any tweaks, updates etc. I prefer to run my computer as a lean, mean machine which means any programs starting with Dell, Samsung, Nvidida, Brother etc are uninstalled immediately.
@Cruise, you may be misinterpreting what Windows is reporting... I'm guessing you ran the command fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and got the result: DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (disabled). If that's what happened everything is good, TRIM is enabled! That command result can be very confusing when it returns "0 (disabled)". Windows is trying to say 'Disable DeleteNotify (TRIM) is disabled', which is a double negative, so TRIM is really enabled. Just pay attention to the value returned by that command, 0 = TRIM enabled, 1 = TRIM disabled.
How did you do that? I tried to install on my Acer notebook but I can't even force the Samsung Driver Installer to run to allow for manual selection.

Great, thank you for the news, anon. I d/l v. 6.3.0 (latest) and it no longer asks me if I'm in the European Union before installing. That always made me a little wary. Anyway, the main thing was this "full performance mode" --is anyone experimenting with this yet? I noticed no difference with it on vs. off. You do need Magician to be installed in order for this mode to function, right? Actually, the only value I found for this software is to get the latest firmware, sorely needed as my 980 Pro had the widely reported write issues. Uninstalled after sampling. Spoiler: Mag FPO

I've been receiving many notifications last week about updating S.Magician, but could never update from the GUI. I had to uninstall (my choice) the old version and install the latest. I'm not sure why I even have it as I could never see any improvement of my SSD performance. I guess it is still good for a diagnostic checkup in terms of temperature and life expectancy of the SSD.
Thanks anon. ===== Hi Osaban, I have just updated from the GUI. Usually (though not always) I install over the top, but decided this time to do it from the GUI. So far it seems to be OK.
Samsung Magician 7.1.0.770 Well, I got it offered and let it install. More I cannot tell you at the moment, sorry! I hope that @anon can tell us more. As far as I can tell this site is giving not the updated info: https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/ Am I now wrong (could very well be)? Thanks.
