Today, I have for you a sad early review of VLC 4.0 Nightly build, focusing on the new and redesigned interface, including tons of problems like bad ergonomics, low font contrast, decreased workflow efficiency, reduced responsiveness, no quick access to local filesystems, video playback in a separate window, and more. There. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/vlc-4-preview.html Cheers, Mrk
I prefer mpv player, but was curious. I executed it by Code: $ snap run vlc --no-media-library Then customized it by clicking: It is still in development stage, so it can and will have a lot of bugs and glitches.
I didn't have the option to change the color scheme - a single default one. I also saw screenshots with the video interface showing commands, so I guess things change rapidly. Mrk
It is not misleading. It is showing the status as is - which I outlined. I said this was early work - it's even in the title. The options that are not shown are not shown. For example: you can have the menu by default - yes, by going through advanced options etc - that's not default. Default is: open the app, it's there. The fact techies can change stuff to their liking is beside the point - it's about the defaults and standard ergonomics, and by that stick, 4.0 offers far less than 3.0, in the current state. If a media player needs Linux distro like approach or skillset, it misses its point. Mrk
Thanks. I thought this is the case. Final VLC 4.0 release will be quite different from what VLC 4.0 looks now.
