Edge v.89 is GREAT so far. The vertical tabs is a very nice feature. :thumb: It opens nearly instantly without the Startup Boost (if one has a strong-ish cpu). A tiny bit of adapting from the previous layout but since I like it, it's no big deal at all. I can open a new tab in a new window now without futzing with-and wandering around in the Edge Settings.

Remember it has the new Startup Boost which keeps Edge running in the background with minimal processes so it will start quicker.
This means the likes of CCleaner won't clean Edge as it is running.
You can of course turn it off in Edge browser settings (under system)
I turned mine off as I don't like things like that running in the background.

    Likewise, will do same.

Edit: Interesting. I am on v89, but Startup Boost is off (on my two laptops).

I think, like Fast Startup for Windows, this should be "opt-in" myself. Some may not know how to shut Edge off when using a cleaning software, for example. It was "on" when I updated Edge to v. 89 a couple of days ago.

    ditto.

    same here

i was running ccleaner the other day and it asked me whether i wanted it to close edge. i wasn't running edge so i checked the task manager and that's when i noticed that it was running in the background. checked edge's settings and voila, there was this new startup boost thingie and i turned it off straight away.

Thanks to all for the info on Startup Boost, which I just turned off. I came here ready to ask why Edge was running 11 background processes and using 24 MB of memory when I hadn't even opened it today.
