Starting next month, LastPass will no longer allow a free account to be used on multiple types of devices (computers and mobile) at the same time.

Still using the Free LastPass for many years now. I don't use it on any mobiles since I'm old school and still using a flip phone. :argh:

It seems that many of us here are old ***** who have been [desktop] internet connected for many, many years. Now back in the day, 1999 is a good example, nearly all the programmes were free, and for those that weren't there was always a crack just around the corner. This changed over time where some of us started paying for some of our software. Let's face it - whether it was an individual or a corporation - someone put in the hard yards to come up with the product. The others still think that software should be free for everyone for all time. And, some of it is. And, there will [nearly] always be a free version of software to perform the task you require. And yes, some of it is very good.
LastPass seems to be a popular product which always rates highly among reviewers and "what pwm do you use" polls. As todays' world in all about mobile phones this announcement will not really affect many people. And if you do use LastPass and need the option of mobile and desktop I don't think that 50c a week is going to break the bank.
It will be interesting to see if any users respond with their intentions - so far only 1 has - the rest has just been spam.

I got that email earlier today. Gonna have to go with the computer option. They'll probably limit that more too. If they hadn't tripled the price I would have kept paying. Now they are getting nothing and it is catching up with them. The next time I see a deal on a lifetime Sticky Password sale I'm switching back.

I got that email as well. I’m not paying for LastPass. I’ll just switch to something else. LastPass isn’t worth it anymore especially for what they are charging.

Yeah, as a free user (on 2 devices) I'm also feeling that pain, but LP is still the best of breed and they are giving their free users a special price of $2.25/mo. (which I'll probably go for).

Everyone wants something for free, if you like it, pay for it, its not that expensive. Why should software companies not charge for their services, would you work for free?

Now with that being said, I don't like the changes either but I'll keep using it.

I switched from LastPass to BitWarden to Lockwise and I can tell you right away that BitWarden is the superior option for 99% of all password manager users

There's a difference between free, a reasonable price, and too much. When it was $12 per year it was reasonable and I would have paid that indefinitely. When they doubled that I continued with it but was open to the possibility of another option. When they increased it another 50% (triple the original price) I was no longer willing to pay that.

I work in the software industry myself. I do not expect everything to be free but I am also unwilling to continue paying the price regardless of what it becomes. You price yourself out of the market at some point.

Yes I agree, if it's really good why not pay for it, if the price is acceptable of course.

Didn't know about this, makes sense. You might want to check out Enpass.

Has nothing to do with wanting something for free. I had their premium before and I paid for software as well. IMO its not worth paying for access for two devices. Also there are other alternatives that are equally as good or better.

Its 2 types of devices, so if you have 4 computes and 2 phones it doesn't matter, same price for all. Your choice if you decide to use another program. However, there are many who want everything for free and could care less if developers get paid.

Yes I know its two types of devices. It really doesn't matter anymore I'm moving on. I don't mind paying for software if I think its worth it. Looking at Lastpass competition, I'd rather pay for one of them, then Lastpass.

I haven't received any emails from them lately. While I don't use LastPass anymore I do still have an account that I can (or could) log into to access my passwords. Hopefully that hasn't changed.

51.00/yr CDN for the premium version is not acceptable in my books even for the additional features included.

I keep seeing this repeated but I don't think that is an excuse for them to price a product beyond its worth. They played this wrong. When they tripled the price over a period of months they caused many, myself included, to stop paying and opt for the free version. Now they are going to restrict the free version to force those users to pay. Rather than recover those customers as paying, they are going to drive them to another product. You have to entice people into paying for your product, not punish them into it. I'm all about developers getting paid. If they want to get rich at my expense I don't have it to give.

I agree that tripling the price is wrong, however everyone has a different opinion as to what is expensive and what is not. For me $51/year is nothing if I like and want to use a product, thats a couple hours in a bar. Note: I use the free version and have no plans of using the paid version, just chirping in with my 2 cents as I don't like when people want free all of the time. Whatever anyone uses or doesn't use is no concern of mine.

Fair enough. Anything is worth what you are willing to pay for it.

Exactly what it boils down to.

    EDIT

to set the record straight from my pov, it has nothing to do with "wanting free all of the time." I have happily paid for many software licenses over the years and will continue to do so as long as I feel it's worth the asking price.

What about the people on a fixed income. Tripling the price within the last few years was a bad idea. This last change that will take place is another bad idea for LastPass. What's next? Next year is LastPass going to limit the amount of Passwords you can use in the Free Version. I would not doubt it. I'm looking for a new password manager if things go bad with LastPass.

Well people on fixed incomes can't buy Ferrari's either. Its simple, they set their price, you decide if you want it and can afford it, if no, then case closed.
