I checked it out with the help of Sandboxie. I couldn't test protection but I do think the GUI is a bit unhandy. They simply list all running processes, but it would be handier if you can see all allowed and blocked apps.

This FW has been around for over 4 years. Its developers have been diligent in making frequent updates & debugs. It warrants another look. I just downloaded this FW. It is at version 2.5.4 as of this moment. I'm presently using PCTools FW Plus, which got absorbed into Norton. I'm going to give Evorim a trial using Shadow Defender. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ USING Shadow Defender to trial Evorim FW (EFW): EFW makes a System Restore backup before it installs. No option to avoid it doing so. Install doesn't need a restart. After install, EFW's CPU usage is negligible. My tired old laptop stayed zippy. Uses about 80MB of Ram, all told. Excellent GUI. VERY easy to work with. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, it was a short trial. EFW ran flawlessly on my Win7 computer. Ergo, I conclude it is a relatively bug-free, stable app. Beyond that, I am not at all qualified to comment on EFW's effectiveness as a firewall. I sure hope one of Wilder's experts, such as @cruelsister and @itman and @popescu , will give this FW a hard technical work-out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just now donated money to support Evorim's further development.

I installed Evorim. It runs like a dream. It is the simplest FW to work with I have encountered since back in the early days of the Zone Alarm FW. With Evorim, setting up special rules is rarely necessary but is VERY easy to do, even for a firewall novice like me. It works just fine with (or without) the Windows FW running. I have chosen to disable the Windows FW. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I checked the Users Manual for Evorim FW again re the Windows internal FW. It says: Thus, on second thought, I have enabled the Windows FW. It has zero discernible effect on system resources so I figure: Why not?

This one is the strangest i have ever used. Last night i ve installed it to se what it is, as the interface is nice. After installation i ve had to start it and set it run at start up manually ?! Then after looking around for various settings gave the W10x64Pro machine internet, to see how it goes. The machine has the KasperskyFree installed and the VoodooShield Free along with.WIndows Firewall off.So maybe they dont get along to well.It may be. They should just inspire into some aspects from the Outpost Firewall way of working.The pop-ups dialogs are strange.The design/mechanics is strange overall. You receive a granular pop up along a generic one, but if you tick "Allow" for a specific connection in the firewall, it adds a generic allow all rule.for the app.So the app connects fully with no restrictions. To add the exact specific port and ip (no protocol specified) you need to click the third button, hidden in plain view.Under this dialog there is another dialog thats asks for Allow all or Block All, but you already can do this by clicking on the upper Allow and Prohibit buttons.In Jetico you have a granular logical choice in the pop-up dialog, as you ve had in Outpost.The designers should really install some Jetico or Outpost build on some PC, to see how they work and look. But allowing the custom ip and port doesnt mean that svchost.exe (as an example) would not continue to ask for the same connection to the same IP and port, over and over, even if it s already added, maybe because there are no local ports to be selected. If you go in the app edit section you ll find that only the remote adress and the remote port/s can be specified, WITHOUT BEEING ABLE TO SELECT A PROTOCOL.For this to work you need to switch the App status to Edit. People that use firewalls know that the most common protocols are ICMP UDP and TCP..This firewall does not allow you to select a prottocol, or a selection of local ports.So the customization is still in the area of allow the app or block the app.If you select for example to allow remote port 80 for your browser, this could mean port UDP 80 as well.You can not restrcit local ports used by the connections. Before uninstalling it i ve had the impression that the router was showing a steady Kaspersky Free connection to the Kaspersky Update servers, AVP.exe beeing in ask mode. There is more to be done for this one.Not sure the coders have ever seen a firewall, like Jetico or Outpost at work, even though they try an inteligent aproach.. It needs ports selection for real, it needs protocols to be add-ed , it needs real logical pop-up dialogs and many other enhancements to look more logical.This if they want to get out of the simple a Allow/Block App way of doing things. The connections log is not really a log, it s called notifications. This is not a review. If you install it make sure you check your router logs to see what goes out.

It looks like an interesting app, but personally I think that the GUI is unhandy, it's a huge list of apps and services. If WFC works for you I would stick with it, or perhaps switch to TinyWall.
I didn't like Tinywall as it blocks everything without prompting the user; I tried simplewall but it lacks information about how to handle it. I also tried Evorim recently, but it still needs to evolve. I kept with WFC for now. I just wish it had more preinstalled rules for windows apps;
Will see how interesting it is.I ll post back my impressions on this version.I hope it s better than what i ve installed last time
OK I see, I actually prefer auto-blocking of outbound connections. With WFC and TinyWall you can easily make outbound rules.
