Agreed, a SSD is the only real solution to this. Fast Startup causes more problems than it solves. It forces a hibernate when you shut down. This makes it take longer to shut down and in my testing does not boot any faster. Eventually your sound will stop working, your networking will have issues, especially on a portable device where it will be waking on a different network. You'll also likely develop problems with any connected USB devices. Fast Startup is best left left off. If you can spare the cash for a SSD, it will be some of the best money you've ever spent.

By default it does not. If you follow through until you get to the download link you will see it offers dch drivers, it will be in the filename. These come with no control panel. It is a battle to get to the ones that still include it. And Windows 10 will fight with you. Microsoft is pushing pretty hard on this.

You need to download standard, not dch drivers.

    Go here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Then you can pick standard or dch

In fact, if you have the link for the dch driver, all you need to do is to delete the "dch-" part and you get the standard driver

I finally moved from win8 to 10 two weeks ago, whilst I wish I now did it a while ago as I like a fair few features, it does have the "beta" feel to it still, same with office 365, but luckily on office 365 once I switched ot the 2 monthly update channel the bugs were gone, but current of office 365 is quite buggy.

From what I understood it disables certain features in Win 10 which are all related to privacy, but perhaps I may have misunderstood. Because I don't believe it actually disables features related to UWP apps.

And BTW, you won't believe it but seems I have discovered another huge blunder that M$ made in Win 10. It turns out that you can't assign apps of your own choice to handle certain protocols. Is M$ kidding me or what?

OK, I just got Update preview KB 4601382 for 20H2 and then the above 21H1 Feature Update. Once 21H1 installed, the KB for 20H2 disappeared from Update History.

I seemingly lost over 3.5 GB from my disk space and could only recoup about 1.0 GB from various cleanups and folder deletions. I opened TreeSize and it's possible the "Servicing" part of Windows has the lion's share of the outstanding GBs. Oh well, maybe that lost space will trickle back somehow. Also, System Restore was activated after I'd disabled it and had created 500+ MB of restore point, which I promptly deleted. But I'm still out like 2.5 GB. :cautious:

Winver is now 19043.844 and I really don't see anything new jumping out at me initially. No changelog yet.

Edit: KB4601382 is showing up in Programs and Features in Control Panel, though. I wonder if it can be uninstalled now that I'm on 21H1. I'll keep an eye out for anything like that.

Yes, I've just finished updating C.U.Preview with KB4601382 with no issues. Version 21H1 was the fastest update/upgrade? ever, about 2 minutes, in fact I wonder whether any changes were made, it feels snappier but it could be psychological, no issues. Hardly any leftover (100 MB) and my System Restore remained disabled.

I assume you are in the Windows Insider build to get this?

The changes so far for the 21H1 update don't seem compelling enough to go from Release Preview to the Beta channel.

Well, I got back that 2.5 GB I was kvetching about after updating to 21H1.

    I followed this tutorial, running the elevated command: Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

It's not much, I mean you read about people with upwards of 100 GB tied up somewhere in Windows and they don't know what to do.

Thanks plat, it's good to have this tool under these circumstances albeit after running it there were no leftovers to clean on my machine.

KB5000967 Feature Experience Pack--did it really happen? Zippidy doo-dah, literally a few seconds. Only 18 MB in cleanup.

Nothing for a changelog, clicking the update link in Settings leads to a "Sorry, this page does not exist." Winver still 19043.844 (Insiders Beta builds).

Same here, very fast indeed and as usual (finger crossed) no issues. It looks like we are the only members in the insider program...

Probably just the only ones on the beta channel. I have 2 PCs on Release Preview and 1 VM on the Dev channel.

BTW, I'm very disappointed with Win 10. Besides the problem with blurry looking GUI's, I now also don't get balloon notifications in the tray anymore, with no way to fix it. And yes I have tried all of the tweaks. I don't think my next machine is going to be based on Win 10.
