Yeah it does the basics, temp, expired win updated, browser cache, those sort of things.

But it isnt a cleaner for your software library like ccleaner.

Just checked no cookies that I can see, its OS side stuff, although there is a lot of OS stuff there that ccleaner doesnt do, for me its perfect, as I auto clean cookies in my browser with an extension anyway. The browser stuff is likely microsoft browsers only as well.

Just an update cleanmgr+ has a more button which supports 3rd party browsers.

I've just tested it out of curiosity in my virtualizer, it was a disaster, my file explorer after 5 minutes was still displaying 'working on it' (it had cleaned about 450 MB of stuff deemed 'safe'. Thanks but no thanks.

Hi, I'm the Product Manager for CCleaner for Windows. I just wanted to strongly warn against some of the 'advice' being promoted in this thread regarding using 2-3 year-old versions of our software.

Ultimately it's up to you, but if you use ancient versions of CCleaner you are willfully ignoring years of updates which include:
    • critical compatibility updates (big changes to Win 10, Chromium, and Firefox spring to mind)
    • stability fixes (a hard-to-diagnose, longstanding memory leak was nailed down fairly recently, other crashes have also been fixed)
    • important security updates (an audit was performed by our parent company's InfoSec team resulting in some changes)
    • anew cleaning support for Edge Chromium, Opera GX, Brave, etc.
    • accessibility improvements (if you have visual impairments you will find the latest experience much more suitable)
    • making it noob-friendly (yes a lot of people on these forums don't need that but if you're recommending CCleaner to someone less technically proficient, consider that newer versions are going to be much easier to use)
Why do we take down extremely old versions of the software? Because, frankly, they're not safe any more! Windows and browsers do not stand still for 365 days of the year and neither do we.

I'm very open to listening to any concerns that may be putting people off from updating to the most recent version, but I cannot stand by and watch people recommend using cleaning software that has the potential to do much more harm than good because it is 40+ versions out of date! That's like recommending Windows 7 without any service packs and expecting good things to happen! #thisisfine

On the topic of being open to feedback, we are now embarking on our next major version update -CCleaner 6.0- and want it to be built in line with our customers' needs. Please feel free to drop me a line with any thoughts you may have about the future of CCleaner or the current version. Many thanks!

ok, here we go. why don't you start with getting rid of that stupid health check tab and making custom clean the homepage as it used to be. another thing is you could add "clean & shutdown" and "clean and restart" functions/buttons. and last but not least, please stop adding useless/pointless features and functions. make it a pure system cleaner as its name suggests. because we don't want it to become the bloatware it is now. and that's why folks are asking each other for the installers of older versions, not for the sake of nostalgia, you know that right?

I paid for a lifetime license for CCleaner. Then that license (arbitrarily) became invalid. That lost me as a customer, honestly. It just isn't good business practice. It says a lot about the character of the people who run a company. Who wants to give their money to people like that? Then all the crap happened with CCleaner after Avast bought Piriform. I stopped using CCleaner. I haven't used it since. I use other options, but am open to returning to CCleaner as long as they do a lifetime key again (and honor it this time), AND go back to being a pure system cleaner/optimizer. Thank you. @Stephen CCleaner

Thanks for the feedback. Did you know that the home screen can be controlled in CCleaner?

Well, I am in the same boat as you, my license became invalid. Now even if they would give me a license, I would not use CCleaner anymore. Burnt once but not twice...

If licenses have become invalid this is generally because the license key is a known pirated key or because the individual requested a refund. If you purchased your license from CCleaner directly and you believe it has been invalidated incorrectly, contact our support team and we'll review it. If you bought it from a third-party provider, it is possible that you were the victim of fraud. We have ample evidence of CCleaner licenses being (re)sold or shared and have taken steps to cut off this threat to our business.

Again if you feel you have been treated unfairly, we can establish this with our Support team and rectify any wrongdoing. Just drop us a line through the normal channels.

I think most people here use the older versions of CCleaner prior to the acquisition by Avast. The subsequent hack was the final nail in the coffin. Since that time, it has become spyware and phones home way to often that many of us here would like to see happening. Also if you block outbound access to the internet, the program launches super slow. Just a few thoughts. Hopefully others will chime in.

All I want is a no-frills cleaner that doesn't "phone home".

I paid for a lifetime license. Bought it directly from Piriform. There are entire threads online elsewhere on the Internet about how Piriform yanked legitimate lifetime licenses from customers who paid for lifetime licenses. I was one of these customers. Imagine my surprise when I saw that my license had expired. (Strangely enough, I could keep updating the program, but I stopped using CCleaner soon after.) No, sir. De-bloat CCleaner and restore lifetime licenses. Only then might I return as a customer. Do right by your customers, and you'll get their business. @Stephen CCleaner

Omnimaximus, have you contacted our Customer Support team? If not, I suggest you do so we can do something about it. If you like, send your customer purchase details to me and I'll have it looked into.
