    Hi @ Wilders

Appreciate some help on the above problem.

    Win 10 x 64bit Chrome Browser.

For a year now my browser is not updating itself automatically. I only found that out by accident. I have tried just about everything the internet has to offer me to try to resolve it.

I read that the menu button (with the three vertical dots) at the top right of Chrome is supposed to change colour according to whether there is an update available or whether it is seriously out of date. I have never seen this occur! My only way of finding out if there is an update is by manually updating via the Help>About Google Chrome or visiting WhatsMyBrowser.Com.

    1) Manually updating Chrome works OK
    2) Completely uninstalling Chrome including removing Chrome profile and starting afresh with a reinstall does not solve the updating problem. This includes using offline installers
    3) There are two Task schedules that appear to be working OK ie no error messages
    4) Tried 7 methods of restarting Auto Update - No joy! Including Checking Google services via MsConfig and via services App. and checked registry entries.

Please can anyone who has experienced this and solved the problem share their ideas.

    Thanks

    Terry

Is it a big deal to manually check for updates using About page once a week?

You wanna go through so much hassle to save 2 clicks once a week

    What is your use case?

    Hi Floyd 57

    Thanks for your reply.

My case for using it is simple:- Google provided the update facility. I wish to use it, but it doesn't work. I like efficiency.

I haven't experienced this, but I will share an idea in hopes of solving your problem. Have you checked Services to comfirm that the two Google Update Service settings are not disabled?

Have you tried if this works on a clean install of W10 or in a vm?

    Hi Floyd 57

    Thanks for your reply.

No I haven't tried either of the two. But I am sure a clean install would resolve the issue, however it is just too much trouble.

If I cannot resolve it. It will have to wait until I am forced to reinstall.

Did you try reinstalling chrome AND deleting all user data and bla bla bla ?

It could also be because your chrome is lacking sync, or apis, or whatever. Or maybe you have the setting disabled. I use a custom chromium build with all those disabled and never had dots glowing up (obviously)

However, if your browser is not updating automatically, then that means it's not just about the color of the dots, it's something with the process. Perhaps it is crashing, can you check event log? Or check if it's getting launched at all. Or try launching it yourself. Obviously since I use custom build there's no update at all, but if I remember correctly it was something like GoogleChromeUpdate.exe or smth similar, you will know when you see it

I have never ever been able to update Google Chrome on several computers.
It starts downloading and gives me some error around the 80% mark; therefore,
As soon as SUM'o informs me about an Chrome update, I click on the ChromeSetup exe file, "permanently" placed in my Download folder, and it updates itself without any issues.
