Today, Kerish Doctor (KD) had updates aggregating over 13mb. I initiated the updates & found the download speed was varying between 2kb/s to 10kb/s. After 10 minutes I cancelled the update & closed KD. Several minutes later, KD began to reload itself - a "self-start." I have used KD for several years & this has never happened before. 13mb is an unusually large update for KD, & an attempted self-start is puzzling. I wonder if I should uninstall KD? (This question is not "political" -- KD has access to my network's groin area & I am concerned about security implications.)
It was an application core update so that's probably why it was a bigger size. For me, the update downloaded at normal speed. As far as uninstalling Kerish, its up to you, its been fine for me so far.
It's because of version 4.90 that was released https://www.kerish.org/en-us/news.php Depends on you if any of those features and/or improvement are worth updating as quick as possible
Thanks for those speedy assurances, you two. I shall give KD's update another go, but on a stand-alone computer for the nonce.
It was updating to the new v4.90, which is the reason for the size. https://www.kerish.org/en/news.php
Spot on...downloaded here last night and auto updated with no issues...KD just got better...and remains an excellent utilities suite that is far too underrated in my very humble opinion.
I just did a full system scan with BitDefender. It reported that, on my computer, Kerish Doctor has 27 password-protected files that could not be scanned. I am *fairly* certain that those files are innocent, as well as being *not executable" in their present state. Even so, I would very much appreciate comments as to whether or not this is a "totally okay situation" from the standpoint of security.
Question for the user of Kerish Doctor. I used it long long time ago but but I wonder with the fast computer we have today if it’s still needed? Does it really boost your PC and prevent Windows crashes as the claimed? Thanks for your comments
It depends on how good the user is at optimising and maintaining their own computer... for new and/or less knowledgable users it can be a very valuable, but gradually become less so as you become more experienced. I am fairly experienced but no ubergeek and still use it on demand for some features.
It is by far the most underrated of its type of application. I would concur with drhu22. I have it in preference to anything else as it is light, is useful & nicely collects a set of tools that I use occasionally. And unlike some others of its type...never had an issue with anything it has fixed or cleaned. As to whether "Does it really boost your PC and prevent Windows crashes as the claimed?"...hard to say as how does one know if you have been saved from a crash if you have been? But certainly checking what it finds and corrects during a Full Scan I would say that it does picks up some items that others do not. On the "boost your PC" bit? Well, that is even more subjective. I think that it has made a difference...but can I quantify that?...honestly?...No...it is more of a feeling based on using my system with KD on or off. But given the price I do not think that one can go wrong with a copy on one's system. Baldrick
As someone who has been using it for 16 years, I have no concerns about it being not trustworthy. Aside from that, if malware was contained in a password protected file, when the contents were extracted do disk loaded into RAM, then antivirus software should detect it.
Yes, my comment acknowledged that fact (in so many words). Having another party put password locked files on my computer -- without asking permission or notifying me -- is just one of several factors that have recently arisen to force me into using a real-time AV instead of an on-demand AV scanner.

Any idea how responsive the kerish developers are to suggestions? Do they even read this forum? I was thinking with the disk defragmentation background running that programs and os are defragged enough know that only data files are being optimised. You can turn off defrag for individual hard drives but not partitions. I was hoping they could add that option so i only defragged programs and os partitions.
