    Hi Folks,

I very recently installed Pale Moon browser v 28.17.0 64-bit on my Windows 10 PC. On opening this browser, I get the following message:

    This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Pale Moon to connect securely to start.palemoon.org, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Needless to say, I haven't progressed beyond this warning message.

I can't confirm this, although I am on Windows 7, but it shouldn't matter.

I don't have PaleMoon installed but it sounds like your home page or new tab page is wrongly configured. If it attempts to open:

    Code:
    start.palemoon.org

on launch then try changing the home page to something else.

    Code:
    https://palemoon.start.me/start

If it was a fresh install did you import any bookmarks or settings from any other installed browser?

Also check bookmarks and delete any that you don't need. Did you download from here?

    Code:
    https://www.palemoon.org/download.shtml

Well I just installed PaleMoon and it doesn't open your problem page or display any warnings or errors.

It opens two tabs. It does not try to open the problem URL.

I'd suggest uninstalling completely including profile removal then grab a fresh copy from the official download site.

    Hi @imdb

Yes, I'm using AdGuard 7.5.3 and ProtonVPN 1.17.6. Do I need to re-configure them?

    FYI:

    Code:
    http://start.palemoon.org

    (insecure) http

    should automatically redirect to:

    https://palemoon.start.me

    (secure) https

    Redirect.jpg

    SiteCheck.jpg

If this was a fresh install of Palemoon (Palemoon was never used previously on your machine) then it should not be connecting to the .org URL on launch.

What is your home page set to?

If I visit the problem URL using Firefox I get a redirect message and am redirected approriately.

Do you use https everywhere extension or similar?

    Hi @Callender & @imdb

    Thanks for your help.

I manually changed the URL in the address bar to https://palemoon.start.me/ but to no avail. I got the following response:

    This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Pale Moon to connect securely to palemoon.start.me, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What did I do wrong? Nothing as far as I can see.

I don't use the https everywhere extension but I am using Am I Unique?

    I am using ProtonVPN.

And this was a fresh installation of Pale Moon.

    Hi @Callender

    Please see my answers above.

And some more information that comes back on the error message:

start.palemoon.org uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates.
An additional root certificate may need to be imported.

    (Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER)

    Hi Folks,

I persisted with this and, now, everything seems OK. Not sure why. It seems to have been related to disabling and re-enabling Am I Unique?

    We'll see how things go.

For the moment, many thanks to @imdb and @Callender!

    Hi Folks,

    I spoke too soon!

I still have a problem but it occurs when trying to launch Pale Moon from the Windows 10 application icon. As a result, I have just put my question on the Pale Moon forum.

I'm beginning to wish that I'd not bothered with this browser but - who knows - perhaps it will all be worth the hassle. Of course, it could still be something I'm doing/not doing but, for the moment, I'm lost for ideas.

    Suggest:

Right click the PaleMoon Shortcut and choose "Properties"

In the Target Field add a space after the path to the executable then type whatever URL you want to open on launch.

Screenshot is from Firefox but it is the same principle.

    Hi @Callender

I tried your suggestion but ended up in a terrible muddle. My bad. But, as a result I've given Pale Moon the boot. Perhaps I'll try starting from fresh some other time but, for the moment, it's a non-starter. Pale Moon is now an even paler moon!

I have used Palemoon for years on Windows 10 with no problems like yours, i suggest uninstalling your add ons and trying it, set your homepage like this http://startpage.com After, if all goes well try installing your addons one at a time..
