Thank you all for helping and Merry Christmas :)
I am definitely interested in anti-rootkit software. I am sorry for not mentioning it in my post. I mistakenly assumed that all antivirus software are also automatically anti-rootkit

Knowing what all its detections mean is quite beyond me. I better not have anything to do with this.

BTW is there a way to multi-quote here when posting?

eset online scanner - good for PUP
kaspersky virus removal tool - good for worms
norton power eraser - too many fps but it is aggressive
    emsisoft emergency kit
hitmanpro (not free but at least will inform on what is happening in the free version)
roguekiller - aggressive and too many fps

these are the most basic and comprehensive for basic stuff that don't leave too much garbage or with easy to remove leftovers, more advanced malware would require more advanced tools and many of these advanced tools are outdated and unsupported

I don't mind using old versions in my XP, even if they are un-supported. Sometimes I have no choice. Also, I don't go for newer versions just because they are available. Could you please name some of these advanced tools.

Using a dead OS is bad enough, but using dead security tools doesn't make any sense at all. If you really want to download some of those "dead horses", you will find plenty of them in the list provided in the second post of this thread.

Did you mean the "Free 30-day Trial" version of HitmanPro here: https://www.hitmanpro.com/en-us.aspx
I don't see any other free version on their web page.

I got an older version 2.0.22.0 and it works great on XP.
Thank you very much. So far I have decided on these. May be a couple more to complete my list.

I spent a few hours trying to find this version, but to no avail. The best I could find was 5.0.0.9. at Uptodown website. Would you know where I can get 6.047?
I use Mypal and Basilisk Serpent. Any suggestions please?

If you already use Basilisk Serpent developed by Roytam1 you already know the other browsers developed by him.
And probably you have already seen Extreme Explorer 360 thread.

Using an up-to-date browser is essential.
But more important is its configuration using extensions and internal settings that greatly increase security.

    This is nice. Thank you.
I don't know but I will look around, if it is too much trouble for you to mention them :):)
Would you know the latest version of 'Malwarebytes-anti-malware' that work on XP?

    (1) The attachment shows the default settings of ADW Cleaner for scanning. Is there any other items here that I can select for more comprehensive scanning without breaking anything? I have no idea which ones are safe to select.

    (2) I have a True Cript container in the computer. Do I have to mount the volume before it can be scanned by anti virus software or will the scan be effective even in the encrypted state?

Seems like you are using things, that you don't understand.

So help him to understand if you can or direct him to where he can find advice... otherwise dont comment. Your post is really condescending and unhelpful.

That's what I did in post #34. However, If she knowingly uses a dead OS and dead security apps she doesn't understand, or is not willing to understand, there is no way to help her.
It is not my intention to be condescending and unhelpful, so let me try to help her by telling her to backup her important stuff (if there is any) just in case she bricks her computer.

I already answerd in post #7, to full extend of the question in post #1

But now this thread is going about all the other questions, of using AVs...

So I will not explain, how scanning a TrueCrypt volume works.
