As last resort, what if you disable Google Chrome in apps (reverts to the stock version) and after that enable it again? You can after that for search updates in the play store and hopefully get the latest update. That fixed a non-working paly store once on my phone.
I just tried this, play store starts updating but still v86. It's not a big deal, i just find it weird tho it takes google so long to push a chrome update. Considering every version fixes a lot of security holes you would expect them to roll it out rather quickly, o well
Yes, me too, though I am usually more excited about the security fixes than the feature enhancements. For example... Not much there to get me enthused. But here is an improvement that looks good to me (for security purposes) ... Excerpted from Greg Keizer's Fast forward: What's coming in future Chrome updates?

Good question. The Chrome 88 Changelog isn't viewable yet (at least that I know of), and testing extensions for manifest files is something I'm not going to be doing. Looks like in early 2019, v3 had "filter limits and restrictions that would mean the end for many ad blockers for Chrome". Don't know if since 2019 Google has altered those limits and restrictions. But apparently v3 allows for security, privacy, and performance enhancements, so I look forward to discovering the answer to your question, NiteRanger. I did read that the "Chrome Web Store will accept submissions of extensions that use Manifest V3 from January 2021 on when Chrome 88 hits the Stable channel", which seems to point to yes, v3 has been implemented in 88.
