Maybe/maybe not. One thing to remember is that some banks, brokerages. retirement contracts require your computer to have AV, regardless whether it is Mac or Windows.
Just browser hardening. The predominant reason I run macOS and Ubuntu is because they don't require an AV. I don't run Windows.
I think this is basically true. Incidentally, I was always more worried that an AV would accidentally brick my Windows machine with false positives than actually getting malware. The solution was simpler than I thought; ditch Windows for Unix and live a happy contented life relatively free of worry.
Do they check that? Do they actually have legal power to search your devices for an AV? In country I live in several banks had warnings that you should use AV, but I doubt they ever checked clients whether they are using it or not. Given that banks now want everybody to have mobile banking applications and mobile OSes doesn't really gain that much by AV I see these warnings less and less frequently. Usually they want evidence that client reported a crime to Police or Prosecutor. Anyway your mileage may vary and you may want to consult that with your lawyer. Another question: even if they found evidence you were not using AV do they actually use that as a way to not return your money to you? In my country you have to exhibit "gross negligence" (banking law) and not installing AV probably doesn't count as that, especially whey you keep your software updated and have some other solutions increasing security.
Malwarebytes Premium for Mac / Malwarebytes Browser Guard and AdGuard for Firefox & Chrome. I've been running it on the Mac a few years without any problems. The Malwarebytes Forum also has a Mac Developer, Thomas Reed, which is a big plus for the software if you do run into problems.
The built-in Guardian antimalware protection and the Mac firewall enabled by third party frontend Lulu. That's it in terms of my security setup. This isn't Windows and my third layer of defense is MacOS ships with a standard account. Use common sense in giving elevated privilege to allow files downloaded from the Internet to run. 'Nuff said.
