    Well we had discussions on Ccleaner and WDC in another forum which I've since quit. Anyway as far as privacy goes just block connections via your firewall then use a manual update method for program updates.

    RE: Ccleaner. It's fine if you know how to tweak it. Remember I suggested setting it to save settings in it's .ini file?

    Go through the privacy concerning settings and uncheck.

    settings file.jpg

    updates.jpg

    privacy.jpg

    Block the program in your firewall. Remove the emergency updater (scheduled task) and delete the updater executable.

    Add these to your hosts file:
    0.0.0.0 ncc.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 ncc.avast.com.edgesuite.net
    0.0.0.0 license.piriform.com
    0.0.0.0 ipm-provider.ff.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 shepherd.ff.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 ip-info.ff.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 analytics.ff.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 uib.ff.avast.com
    0.0.0.0 analytics.ns1.ff.avast.com

    For anyone else interested:

    Create a batch file to import registry entries:

    Ccleaner batch.jpg

    Reg files:

    Cleaner.reg

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Piriform]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Piriform\CCleaner]
    "RunICS"="0"
    "Brandover"="0"
    "Language"="1033"
    "Monitoring"="0"
    "HelpImproveCCleaner"="0"
    "SystemMonitoring"="0"
    "UpdateAuto"="0"
    "UpdateCheck"="0"
    "CheckTrialOffer"="0"
    "(Cfg)QuickClean"="0"
    "(Cfg)HealthCheck"="0"
    "(Cfg)GetIpmForTrial"="0"
    "(Cfg)SoftwareUpdater"="0"
    "(Cfg)SoftwareUpdaterIpm"="0"

    Ccleaner2.reg Code box below is for 64bit version.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Piriform]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Piriform\CCleaner]
    "GD"="35a7238d-eeff-4816-b9a8-fba55115e495"
    @="C:\\Program Files\\CCleaner"
    "UpdateAuto"="0"
    "UpdateCheck"="0"
    "CheckTrialOffer"="0"
    "(Cfg)GetIpmForTrial"="0"
    "(Cfg)SoftwareUpdater"="0"
    "(Cfg)SoftwareUpdaterIpm"="0"
    "Monitoring"="0"
    "HelpImproveCCleaner"="0"
    "SystemMonitoring"="0"
    "(Cfg)QuickClean"="0"
    "(Cfg)HealthCheck"="0"

    Create an elevated shortcut to launch the batch file and create a shortcut to it on your desktop:

    Ccleaner Shortcut Properties.jpg

    Elevated shortcut (via scheduled task)

    Task Scheduler.jpg

    What you get is Ccleaner without the crap.

    CCleaner - FREE FOR HOME USE.jpg

    For advanced users:

    Get a copy of Winapp2ool.exe and drop it in Ccleaner program folder.

    Code:
    https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/

    Winapp2ool.jpg

    Right click and run as administrator. Download and trim latest winapp2.ini

    update.jpg

    Launch Ccleaner and find extra entries marked with an asterisk *

    Leave volatile entries alone unless you know what you are doing. (These will show a warning if you select them)

    First run - analyse only (do not clean) then check results.

    On the other hand you could just install HDCleaner with zero privacy issues. Configuration and settings might be an issue for some.

    Code:
    https://kurtzimmermann.com/hdcleanerext_en.html

    Avoid registry cleaner component.

    Of just pick any half decent cleanup tool that you understand how to configure and use. If you don't know how then just use Window's built in cleanup tools.

    @Callender
    hi , really amazing and super useful post , should be pinned !
    sadly there is no a bookmark option ,but added in my firefox bookmarks ! I have started to use ccleaner with xp , after I stopped to use
    about
    , could be possible know in which forum there are such information or it's again the wilder forum rules?

    and would be really useful schedule Winapp2ool.exe with (winapp2ool.exe -2 -d -s )to download and trim the lastest winampp2.ini every week
    and let it work with portable version too

    i have never used Winapp3.ini , only Winapp2.ini , just for information could I use both in the same instance of cclener
    and hdcleaner looks nice ,even used before

    thanks really appreciate your post!

    Thank you :)

    I found the registry key in the same path @plat1098 post
    registry.jpg

    Questions:

    A) Should I have to delete the hidden entries?
    B) Why is important to know about the path of hidden entries in the registry?
    C) Every time I scan, WDC can not delete this .tmp is 0 bytes, don't know what it is
    or how to stop it!! (I tried to disable notifications, but still appears over and over again) Any Idea?

    Thanks

    a) put e reg-remove file to the setup
    wdc_remove.reg
    Code:
    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\clsid\{E5B3AA32-A77C-4653-A7B1-1BF3EE35D531}]
    edit: need ANSI format, otherwise need this
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\clsid\{E5B3AA32-A77C-4653-A7B1-1BF3EE35D531}]

    b) it's a hidden marker that wise software has been installed. CLSID is known to be used for this. Also for Typelib. I give you some examples which I mentioned in private message
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{5C56845A-8E88-4AD8-B9BF-8FB6219D82F9} ; Edatez Abike Gosakej Class
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{4CBC3EBF-6072-F0FA-7853-FEB5FBB22C50} ; REG_SZ

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{E2CBAA82-082D-429A-9EA5-FA5B27AD9CA9} ; Lapexazqi Narib
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{F61CB8C5-0C27-69EA-6FE4-8285F1D0C8B4} ; REG_SZ
    This is just an example, it's a hidden trial software marker. clsid and typelib are unique, but content are same as real windows used keys. The above in (a) is just the simple key of wise, it could be more hidden if they want to.

    You can delete it, I would guess wdc will set it again.

    c) maybe it's in use as several other zero byte files, in special tmp files as a marker for something else. as you can see it's locked by windows, or access is not granted because of self-defense.

    Not granted access as self-defense is the most common hurdle for cleaning software. Windows won't let you and thus it becomes futile - either files or registry. Those cleaners will find again and again and again ... the same key they cannot delete, or windows will recreate it immediately. This is the result/experience for me testing again and again and again such software in the past.

    And my example for WDC, wdc like to clean up <200megs, windows will offer me 1gig - that's a "slight" difference.

    I'm not sure of the forum rules on posting links to other forums. If you internet searched my username here along with ccleaner you'd find the forum.

    RE: winapp3.ini. I've never used it. RE: winapp2.ini updates. The rules are updated when needed and not on a weekly basis so I just run a check via winapp2ool once per month or so.

    RE: Portable Ccleaner. If you drop winap2ool.exe into Ccleaner Portable folder it should work but if it doesn't there's an option to define the path.

    Here I changed default path to use with Bleachbit for example.

    Winapp2ool 1.jpg

    Winapp2ool 2.jpg

    Winapp2ool 3.jpg

    @Nanobot

    Thanks.

    The command line to download and trim in one go appears to be broken. See:

    Code:
    https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/issues/200

    I tested winapp2ool.exe 6 -s -p and got a non-trimmed winapp2.ini file which slows ccleaner down to the point of being unusable.

    However as suggested two separate commands work:

    winapp2ool.exe 6 -s
    winapp2ool.exe 2 -s

    The first one downloads the file and the second one trims it. Now I'm not sure how to get that into a scheduled task that would run monthly.

    It would have to download the file and wait for it to complete before launching the second command to trim the file.

    The following command line should still work:
    Code:
    winapp2ool.exe -2 -d -s

    https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/tree/master/winapp2ool#command-line-arguments

    Otherwise, you can also create a batch script:
    Code:
    @ECHO OFF
    CD /D "%~dp0"
    winapp2ool.exe download winapp2 -s
    winapp2ool.exe trim -s

    Just copy the text into a text file and name it e.g. wa2update.bat. Move the file to the directory of CCleaner respectively Winapp2ool and execute this file via the Task Scheduler.

    This thread turned out to be amazing. However, one thing is clear (to me at least): if CC requires this much to stay clean, I'm better off with Wise anyway. Just two simple blocks in the Windows firewall and deletion of Task and I'm good.

    At least for now.

    Not that hard to setup CC. Just use the portable option and block in your firewall.

    Ditto on that.

    The Ccleaner info was only posted to describe how to make it work as originally intended. A system cleaner without the extras and warnings on "number of trackers found" and so on.

    Then there was extra info an adding additional cleaning rules for advanced users.

    As stated simply blocking via firewall and disabling update checks is good enough privacy wise.

    you should no rely on ccleaner, it has no benefit for your system, get familiar with "cleanmgr"

    my current used is still 5.65 because i dont care about this piece of software. i never use it on windows cleaning nor browser "destropying" (cleaning) - i just have an eye on registry but for 99% its still same result so why care? i told you before about WDC, its truly same placebo effect:

    "wow so much results, must be a good program, i should by pro"
    consider pro and you get lost and wasted money.
    BS over and over again.

    That's a non issue.

    Firewall.jpg updates.jpg Task Scheduler.jpg

    What's an issue is that they have not fixed the crash dumps created every run.

    crash dump.jpg

    So it's back to Ccleaner 573 Slim for me.

    https://community.ccleaner.com/topi...s-event-viewer/?do=findComment&comment=324795

    The problem is that those settings are already disabled.

    I still get these dll's loading and a crash reported (even though Ccleaner still works)

    Thanks for that info. However I have no idea how to remove Custom Clean, Health Check and Software Updater in the portable version like you can in the slim version. With the slim version it's possible to install a new version straight over the top of the old version and keep custom settings.

    However if using the portable version alongside the slim version it's possible to set up different cleaning profiles for both. Say clean via slim version and browser clean only via portable version.

    Personally I keep browser cache in RAM (not using disk cache) and session is cleared each time with session restore disabled. If using disk cache there is an obvious benefit to not clearing the cache. However I tested page load speeds using RAM cache (cleared each session) and disk cache (never cleared) and there is little difference.

    Portable version just contains update check settings with no emergency updater executable or update scheduled task.
